World Language

Vision Statement

Department of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School strives to educate students to be linguistically and culturally prepared to be contributing members of a global society  Students that take world language courses will learn to communicate effectively in a language other than English while developing an understanding and respect for diverse people and cultures.

Learning to speak another’s language means taking one’s place in the human community. It means reaching out to others across cultural and linguistic boundaries. Language is far more than a system to be explained. It is our most important link to the world around us. Language is culture in motion. It is people interacting with people.
