On Saturday, MVRHS students competed for the first time in the MA Unified Bocce Tournament at Walpole High School. Our athletes competed with 22 high schools and 250 athletes from around the state.
Like Unified Basketball and the upcoming Unified Track program, Unified Bocce is an inclusive sport that combines individuals with and without intellectual disabilities for training and competition. It’s sponsored by Special Olympics and the Massachusetts Association of Student Councils, and is almost completely student-run.
Our athletes were Reinaldo Dos Santos, John Fetters, Caroline Hurley, Connor McGrath, Ryan Murray, and Wynnie Welles.
It was an exciting and challenging competition, and a great opportunity to make new friends. Our team met and mixed with students from Bishop Stang, Marshfield, Hingham, Methuen, Amesbury, and many others.
A HUGE thank you to Karter Moran, Brian Roesler, and Andrew Vandall for coaching, encouraging, and supporting them throughout the day.
