BACKGROUND:
The Leadership classes are working on four projects on behalf of the school, and we wanted to connect with the whole student body to get some feedback. Sally Caron interviewed the students about the projects, and that interview is in the weekly RJO broadcast.

1. Creating a Student Caretaker volunteer network
For this project, we hope to recruit at least one student volunteer for each teacher and room, and that person would help bring some energy to the room by arranging to bring in plants, artwork – really whatever the teacher and student might like – to the space. The Leadership class will facilitate with Horticulture and Ms. Shoquist regarding getting stuff for the Caretakers to bring to the rooms. Interested students can complete the sign-up form, and we will get in touch to let them know how we’ll get started.
2. Reworking hallway and other school spaces to embody more school spirit
We’d like to explore having fewer lockers in the hallways and more art, photography, banners, and other images that are all about what we do in our school. We are going to start this by focusing on the Athletic Hallway area, which has 20+ year old murals, unused lockers, and very old paint, etc. We want some feedback about what should go into that space as we look at ideas for our options. We are also interested in feedback on the front courtyard and cafeteria patio spaces. This is the subject of the Mentor Monday circle discussion on Monday, Oct. 22nd.
3. Updating the locker room areas
We feel the locker rooms are in fairly run-down condition, and we’d like to paint them, get some furniture, partition off the shower areas, and put up banners and quotes to increase school spirit. We are lobbying for new lockers as well, though for now we are just hoping for some basic updating. We’d also like to update the bench area outside the back entrance with some landscaping, etc. We hope students will complete our survey on this.
4. Helping to strengthen the post-secondary planning process
Students can sometimes feel lost as to what steps to take as they plan for their time after high school. We have created a survey to figure out what might be needed to help make this process easier. There is support from guidance, CTE, and other networks in the school, but we want to think about what else might be helpful. We hope students will complete our survey on this, as well.
