posted by Chris Connors During the weekend of September 19 -21, members of the MVRHS Innovation Club traveled to Maker Faire in New York City. The group was invited by the Maker Faire organizers to give a presentation about their project, The Two Week Electric Kart on the Make: Education stage. They spoke as a panel for 30 minutes about the experience of creating an electric kart in two weeks on a shoestring budget in time for this Spring’s Cape Cod Maker Faire. Beach Clean-Up
posted by Natalie Munn Last Saturday, Sept. 20th, many of our students joined with hundreds of thousands of volunteers at 5,583 locations around world for the 29th annual Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup. It is the world's largest single day volunteer effort to clean up our beaches, lakes, and rivers. Held at the Vineyard Haven Harbor, the Beach Clean Up was organized by our own Katrina Lakis as part of the MVYLI. Our students from the MVironment Club, as well NHS, some Minnesingers, and others, came ready to collect and catalog trash. Every piece of trash was tracked and counted, and it will be included in the annual index of global marine debris. Of the 4579 items Read More / Leia mais

While at first glance, it may look inadequate as a car, consider the following: In the beginning of April, a group of students began working on this car. The deadline was the second Saturday of April Vacation, two school weeks away. They worked mostly after school, from 2pm to 3:30 Most days, there were two to five students. Mr. Connors and Mrs. Carlomagno supervised, and helped gather supplies. No student had any experience making a car before. Most students had little experience working with the tools we used. All of the decisions were made by the students. All of the tools were operated by Read More / Leia mais
Irish History class celebrates ancient game
A thousand years ago, a boy named Setanta had magical powers as a hurler. Though he was only eight, he could play against 100 men and win and one day when he was playing a game against 128 grown men hurlers he was defeating them all. While this remarkable thing was happening, the Ard Ri (high king) walked by and saw this amazing skill. He talked with the young Setanta and realized that he was a child unlike any other and so he invited him to join his council meeting that evening and then he went on his way. Sadly he forgot that he had invited Setanta and when it came time for the meeting he rolled up a big stone at the entrance of his castle to keep everyone out and he placed his huge Read More / Leia mais
