Congratulations to the twenty student artists from MVRHS who won 2016 Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards! Six of them - Tom Irwin, Lizzie Dourian, Amber Medeiros, Pia Ohlsen, Lia Potter, and Opal Wortmann - won Gold Keys (the highest award), which means their work will be exhibited in Boston next month and then go on to New York City for the national competition later this spring. 17th Annual Science & Engineering Fair Results!
On Saturday, 71 students showed off 50 original science projects at the 17th annual Science and Engineering Fair. Congratulations to all who participated and to the winners: Curtis Fisher won first place for his project: "Space Age Information via a Cube Satellite". Second Place went to Katherine Roberts and Rose Engler for their "Solar Powered Cellphone". Third Place went to Daniel Gaines and David Webster for "Recycled Polystyerene Pavers". Raindrops are Falling on My Water Wheel – January Engineering Challenge Results
Each month, our students have the opportunity to compete in our after-school Engineering Challenge competition. The goals of the Challenge include: providing students an opportunity to experience authentically and firsthand the process of engineering as they work as engineers to complete a design challenge providing students an opportunity to work as a group to collaborate and communicate to achieve a common goal providing students an opportunity to compete as an academic team in a different type of competition than our yearly science fair, thus expanding the opportunities for students to gain recognition for their accomplishments in science and related STEAM disciplines. MVRHS Students Succeed at DECA Competition
MVRHS Business students competed in their first DECA (Distributed Education Clubs of America) Career Conference and Competition held on January 7th-8th at the Boston Marriott Quincy. Students competed and networked with over 950 peers from across Eastern Mass. in more than 25 categories of individual and team events - all including real life business role plays before a team of business professionals who acted as judges. After the role plays, students attended career workshops, a banquet dinner, and took a 100 question writtten exam in their competitive field.
