Following a string of wars, rising drug problems, social conflict, climate change, deaths of many artists who have touched lives, and a country divided over our new leader, artists have a unique opportunity to respond to the national and global events of 2016. This has been a difficult year for many people across the country and our staff and students are no exception. Many in our community are at risk of feeling ostracized, disconnected, and alone. Scenes from the Peer Outreach Retreat
The 11th annual Peer Outreach retreat took place on October 26th and 27th. 40 new students who were identified by their peers as people that others turn to for help with their problems were nominated to take part in the program. Nominees attend this intensive 2 day training to enhance their listening and communication skills and learn how to take care of themselves while being a support for their friends. Through a series of games and activities students are taught the appropriate skills that can help them help their fiends more effectively.
