- TAKE THE NEW MVRHS STUDENT SURVEY !!
- Mentor Monday will take place on TUESDAY, May 15 : You will sign up through Friday, 5/25.
- Community Service Give Back Day: Monday May 21: all MVRHS students and and staff will take part in an island wide community service day, volunteering at about 40 island organizations. This will be in place of academic classes. Students will arrive to school that morning and be briefed about where they are going and what they will be doing there. They will then take a bus to those locations where they will carry out these tasks alongside MVRHS staff and with the help of student leaders. They will be brought back to the school in time for lunch and a quick follow up on the days work. Attendance will be taken throughout the day and transportation will be provided. Students should not take miss this day as it is a great way to give back to the island and organizations that have given us so much.
- AP Testing: AP testing will take place May 7th – 11th and 14th – 18th. The AP tests will take place in rooms 101 and 102, Mr. Houghton and Mr. Jakusik’s rooms as well as the Circle Room in the RJO.
- Please limit the noise on that end of the school for the next two weeks.
- Many students will be taking multiple exams throughout the next two weeks so please wish them luck!
- Math MCAS testing will take place on Wednesday, May 23rd and Thursday, May 24th for the 10th graders. Note: room changes this week will be posted and emailed out to teachers.
- PROM: The Prom is THIS WEEKEND, Saturday the 19th of May- have fun and be safe everyone. There is an after-prom party for the record books set for the Bowling Alley!
- Senior Ball: The Senior ball will be held at the Loft, Tuesday June 5th at 6:00pm.
- Open Campus Privilege: The school is considering letting next year’s seniors “in good standing” schedule one “free” period. If their free block is either first or last period, they may come in late and/or leave early by checking with Inez. If a senior’s free block falls in the middle of the day, students may not drive off campus, but will be allowed to walk to surrounding areas such as the YMCA, skatepark, or other surrounding areas. They will not be allowed to wander the halls or interrupt classes. If seniors choose to stay in the building, they may go to the cafeteria. Students will remain in good standing as long as they:
- Serve consequences when assigned and do not have any missed consequences on record;
- Are not on social probation as a result of suspension;
- Have not cut class or school on the school day of an event (if the activity/event is on a weekend, the school day immediately prior to the event counts);
- Are not a safety concern to the community; and
- Demonstrate a willingness and ability to comply with the reasonable requests of adults and be redirected in the moment.
- THIS YEAR’S SENIORS WILL GET THIS OPPORTUNITY THE WEEK OF MAY 21
- NEXT YEAR’S SENIORS WILL GET THIS OPPORTUNITY IN EARLY JUNE!
- Lockdown Video and Drill: On Tuesday May 26th, students will watch a video on the “Run. Hide. Fight.” to help educate them on what do during a real life lockdown. On June 5th students will partake in a lockdown drill.
- Vision Fellowship: Congratulations to Mr. Kent on receiving The Martha’s Vineyard Vision Fellowship. This is awarded to a range of educators pursuing new degrees to student leaders starting off in environmental careers, medical professions, and marine sciences. The Vision Fellowship provides grants in various amounts to help create Island leaders “who work to maintain the unique qualities of Martha’s Vineyard for future generations,” the Press said. Ryan Kent will use this grant to pursue graduate-level certification courses in preparation for the APENS exam, a national certification test required to earn the credential Certified Adaptive Physical Educator.
- Theo Gallagher, Joao Goncalves, Rachaya Lane, Otto Osmers and Matteus Scheffer are our MVRHS STUDENTS who received this fellowship for “impressing the committee with their passion and enthusiasm for their anticipated courses of study.”
- High School View : Congratulations to our high school newspaper on taking home top honors in its class at NESPA (New England Scholastic Press Association). Specific students were also awarded special achievements for their excellent journalism. These include:
- Mackenzie Condon, News Story: “New track promises community support”
- Mackenzie and Alexis Condon, News Story: “Nor’easter traps vacationers off-island”
- Daniel Rivard, News Photo: “Band establishes a community presence”
- Lizzie Williamson, Bylined Column: “Lost and Found”
- Emily Gazzaniga, Feature Story: “Volunteers experience global exchange”“Rose Engler, Mackenzie Condon, and Henry Hitchings serve as this year’s Co-Editors-in-Chief, and they (along with Addy Hayman, Alexis Condon, Curtis Fisher, and Astoria Hall) have done a masterful job leading the newspaper staff—inspiring young writers, upholding standards of excellence, respecting deadlines—not only on Monday afternoons, but also behind the scenes through the hours of work that go into producing a weekly publication. Less competent leaders could have let things slide in a transition year; they certainly did the opposite.” – Kate Hennigan, Advisor
- Photographer’s Society Debut Show: Daniel Rivard, Tyla Packish, and Davin Tackabury will be honored at Featherstone Gallery in Oak Bluffs, from 12 – 4 PM on May 14th – 20th.

The Hunting Ground. Film to be shown in the PAC. Seniors Only, Friday 5/24.
The Hunting Ground is a documentary film about the incidence of sexual assault on college campuses in the United States and what its creators say is a failure of college administrations to deal with it adequately. The documentary focuses on Annie E. Clark and Andrea Pino, two former University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill students who filed a Title IX complaint against UNC in response to their rapes while enrolled.The use of Title IX in campus sexual assault cases became a model for universities across the country. **Sign up under Guidance/Hunting Ground** Trailer: https://youtu.be/XOujlVu5-kA
