Vineyarder of the Week
This week we interviewed Kyle Crossland, the new horticulture teacher and assistant baseball coach
What do you do here at the high school?
I am the CTE horticulture teacher.
Where did you grow up? What high school did you go to?
I grew up in Oak Bluffs and went to MVRHS. I graduated in 2001.
Where did you go to college and what for?
I went to UMass Amherst for environmental design and horticulture and ECOSA Institute for Ecological Design in Arizona.
How did you get involved with horticulture?
When I was a kid my father had a nursery and I grew up running around, doing little jobs, and fell into the family business.
What made you decide to come and teach at MVRHS?
When I heard that Mr. Wojtkielo was retiring and that the job was open, I thought it would be a really cool job opportunity. I used to coach Babe Ruth Baseball and thought it would be great to combine the two.
What is your favorite part of teaching at MVRHS?
Really getting to know the students, I love the greenhouse and the environment.
Do you participate in any other activities in the school?
I am a Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach.
How many years have you been playing/coaching baseball?
I have been playing my whole life, and I have coached off and on for about 6 years.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
When I was in college, I traveled to India and spent 6 months there.
