Vineyarders of the Week
This week we interviewed John Morris and Lily Pigott, Seniors and 3 sport captains this year
Do you know where you are going to school next year? Or what you want to go for?
John: I would like to either attend University of Miami or the University of Tampa.
Lily: I would like to attend Dennis University or Connecticut College. I’m interested in mental health so I might focus on psychology or pre-law.
Any big summer plans?
John: No I don’t have any…
Lily: No, working to make money for college and plan to hang out with friends. Make my last full year a good one.
What sports did you play this year?
John: I am currently playing lacrosse, but also played football and basketball. Lily: I am currently playing lacrosse, but also played field hockey and basketball.
What is the best part of being nominated as a Captain (in all 3 sports this year!!!)?
John: It is a good feeling to know that the coaches of each sport have faith in me and that the players look up to me.
Lily: It feels good to have people recognize and acknowledge the hard work you’ve been putting in. I always try to bring positive energy to all my teams and be a good role model.
What is the most difficult part of being a Captain?
John: The most difficult part is trying to talk to the players that don’t want to listen, and you always have to be conscious of what you are going to say next.
Lily: It is important to recognize that just because you hold the title doesn’t mean you’re superior to anyone. When you are chosen to be a Captain, it means you have to advocate for others and keep a balance of equality and leadership. You always have to make sure you’re not acting superior, but instead are acting the best you can be for others to look up to.
What other activities do you participate in throughout the school?
John: I am a part of Best Buddies, SWEAR, Peer Outreach and National Honors Society.
Lily: Playing sports is a big commitment, so I haven’t been able to be involved in as many things as I would have liked, it is one of my biggest regrets. However, I was able to participate in Model UN and I enjoyed a mentorship at Garden Gate Child Development Center (my senior project is focused on this experience).
Tell us one thing that no one knows about you!
John: My favorite dinner is Chicken Parm.
Lily: In kindergarten, I didn’t have a lot of friends so I would talk to the turkeys and tell them about my day.
