MVRHS #RealMenSwear
Last month student members of our SWEAR (Stand With Everyone Against Rape) and Peer Outreach programs led several discussions with the freshmen, sophomore and junior classes around the topic of healthy relationships, consent, and bystander behavior.
- On November 15th, “Gym Class Heroes,” our annual anti-bullying skit, was performed for the freshmen class. Following the skit, student volunteers led small group discussions about the impact harassment and bullying can have on our school community.
- A special thank you to Lizzie Williamson, Gabe Nelson, Joao Goncalves, Dillon McAndrews and Ian Trance who, in collaboration with CONNECT to End Violence, met with freshmen and sophomore health classes to discuss healthy relationships and consent.
- Last week discussions were facilitated by members of SWEAR and Peer Outreach with the entire junior class about sexual assault and harassment. These conversations will continue with the other grades in upcoming weeks.
We will continue to empower our students to lead meaningful conversations with each grade level around respectful behavior and other important topics.
Guidance Office Information
Students/Parents:
- Senior students/parents, please check for emails from colleges that you have applied to and be sure that colleges are not missing transcripts, recommendations, etc.
- We have found that there is a glitch with Naviance and the Common Application and want to be sure that your information is getting to the colleges.
- Any questions, please see your guidance counselor. 508-693-1033, ext. 121.
- Transcripts: All transcripts will be sent to colleges when students apply. After first quarter grades are verified, the transcripts will be updated, and another transcript will be sent to each college the student applied to.
- Seniors and thank you’s: Make sure to thank the teachers who have written you a college recommendation. The best way is to write a personalized “thank you” note.
Brazilian Consulate Visit
On Friday, December 1st, five representatives from the Brazilian Consulate and the vice-consul, Daniel de Oliveira, visited the MVRHS. More than 100 Brazilian students participated in workshops facilitated by the Consulate representatives. The students and the representatives discussed the privileges, rights and duties of dual citizens and how vital it is to learn Portuguese and pass it on to new generations as our inheritance language.
In the afternoon, students and their parents renewed passports, and obtained documents that every Brazilian citizen must have updated with the Brazilian government. Some of our students were able to obtain their Brazilian birth certificate, and one of our American students was able to get his Brazilian visa for an upcoming trip during winter break.
It was a necessary and successful event which would not have been possible without the help of the school’s principal, Sara Dingledy, Chef O’Malley who provided food for the Consulate representatives, and MVRHS ELL teachers, Dianne Norton and Cheri Cluff.
