- Daylight Savings Time Ends Sunday, November 5th! Turn those clocks back!
- New quarter starts Monday! Grades for 1st quarter close on November 3rd. Final grades from first quarter will be released the week of November 13th.

- Winter Sports: Registration is now open for winter sports.
- News From the Nurse: Save yourself a phone call to the nurse. You can check at anytime, anywhere, anyplace, in your plus portal what the nurse has on file for a sports physical.
- MVRHS Bowling Club: Meetings are every Monday from 2:30-4:30 @ The Barn. Take the OB Bus, Lane 7, right after school. Cost is $5.00!
- Friday, November 10th Veterans Day is observed- NO SCHOOL 11/10/17.

This Week: Chef Jack O’Malley- CTE Teacher/Dept Chair
How long have you been in the school?
– I have been at the school for 14 years.
How long have you been a chef?
– I have been a chef for 30 years.
What is your favorite dish?
– Steak Brutus.
What were you before a chef?
– I have worked in the restaurant business since I was 16. I was a dishwasher, then fry cook, prep cook, line cook, broiler cook, sous-chef and finally executive chef.
Do you enjoy working in the high school?
– Yes, I like to watch the kids improve and grow from freshmen to senior year.
Did you work somewhere before the MVRHS?
– I have always been in the restaurant business.
Did you go to culinary school?
– Yes, Newbury college where I graduated with an associates degree in food and beverage management.
What made you decide to switch from a career in the restaurant business to teaching in a high school?
– My friend, who taught at Monty Tech, a vocational school, said he loved his career. He said the hours were better and the job that much more rewarding. So I volunteered in a local vocational school and then moved to Martha’s Vineyard for this job!
Do you miss the restaurant?
– I do love still love the restaurant business. I still work a bit in the summer and I cater. I was a private chef this summer. I loved it because it was a new and different opportunity.
What do you like to be called in the kitchen?
– Chef O’Malley
Information from the Guidance Office
Freshmen and Sophomores: Guidance counselors will be pulling students over the next couple weeks to get them familiar with Naviance. Students will explore careers, work on personal resumes, and begin a basic college search.
Check Naviance for the list of college reps who are visiting the high school.

Senior Information
- Application Requirements: Students should check with certain schools about application requirements, be sure to have all the basics:
- Update your Naviance so guidance knows where students have applied and where transcripts and recommendations need to be sent.
- Seniors should remind teachers of their college deadlines.
- SAT scores should be sent directly from College Boards to their applied schools.
- Both seniors and parents need to complete the FAFSA application.
- Students: make sure to check in with your guidance counselor if you have any questions.
- Senior squares Tuesday during flex.
- Transcripts: All transcripts will be sent to colleges when students apply. After first quarter grades are verified, the transcripts will be updated, and another transcript will be sent to each college the student applied to.
- Reminder- Check early action or early decision dates for colleges.
- Seniors and thank you’s: Make sure to thank the teachers who have written you a college recommendation. The best way is to write a personalized “thank you” note.

Community Arts Project
Every Thursday, learn about the different ways you can celebrate diversity in our community. Any and all artists, sculptors, researchers, and writers are welcome.

Uproot Club
Meeting on Tuesday, 11/ 7 LCR. Students are already pulled who signed up. Every other Tuesday there will be a meeting. Students will not be pulled after this meeting- you must sign up yourself in the future!

CTE Scholarship Information
Wednesday, November 8th, during flex, there will be a meeting for grades 10-12 regarding the workforce development scholarship. **Ms. Chauvin will pull all students 10-12 that are apart of the vocational program.
Make your Senior Square for Yearbook during Flex Block!
November 7th through November 22nd ANY FLEX BLOCK T-F. This event will take place during Flex Block from Nov. 7th – 22nd. Seniors sign up anytime during the November time period for Ms. Todd in Room 404! Students can expect to spend about 2 Flex Block periods on making their square!
