- Skype with foreign students: Skype with students from Puerto Madryn, Argentina on Tuesday, October 31. Help answer some questions about Martha’s Vineyard and ask about their life in Argentina. Join us- especially if you’re able to speak Spanish! **See flex info for more.

On October 31st, the school will have a fun costume competition for:
- Individual costumes, student
- Group costumes, student
- Individual costume, staff
- Group costume, staff
Students and staff in costumes should have their photos taken in the cafeteria photo booth in order to take
part in the costume competition.
Students should go to the photo booth during passing time, flex block or lunch.
The yearbook staff and a few faculty members will be the judges.
Third and fourth periods will be shortened in order to make time for a Costume Parade in the gym from 1:45-2:05. Last period classes will go and sit together in the gym.
Costumed participants will be in the parade, either altogether or by category (still to be determined).
Winners will be announced at the end of the parade.

Freshmen and Sophomores: Guidance counselors will be pulling students over the next couple weeks to get them familiar with Naviance.

Senior Information
- Application Requirements: Students should check with certain schools about application requirements, be sure to have all the basics:
- Update your Naviance so guidance knows where students have applied and where transcripts and recommendations need to be sent.
- Seniors should remind teachers of their college deadlines.
- SAT scores should be sent directly from College Boards to schools they have applied to.
- Both seniors and parents need to complete the FAFSA.
- Students: make sure to check in with your guidance counselor if you have any questions.
- Reminder- Check early action or early decision dates for colleges. Many have an 11/1 deadline.
Seniors: Make sure to thank your teachers who have written your college recommendations. The best way is to write a personalized “thank you” letter.
Vineyarder(s) of the Week
This Week: Amber Cuthbert and Catherine Cherry for their performance in the Brown Invitational in Cross Country.
Amber: Won the Junior Varsity race with a time of 21:08 – a personal best, shaving off 1:40- besting the 168 competitors that ran.
Catherine: Finished in under 20 minutes for the first time ever! She was 18th in a stacked varsity race that had 155 runners. She is one of only three other MVRHS XC athletes to complete the race in under 20! This just in: Catherine broke a MVRHS record (19:45) by running a 19:40 minute race on 10/28!

Why did you choose cross country?
Amber: Because I enjoy running.
Catherine: Because I like running and size doesn’t matter.
Extracurricular Activities:
Amber: Indoor/outdoor track and field.
Catherine: Indoor/outdoor track for distance.
What is something that it is on your mind regarding school?
Amber: Looking ahead, when I become a senior, having to write college essays.
Catherine: Managing my workload- trying to maintain good grades and not get stressed.
What do you want to do when you get older?
Amber: I am not sure yet.
Catherine: Neurosurgeon.
What is one thing that you enjoy about living on the Island?
Amber: I appreciate the quietness of the Island. I moved to the Island from New Hampshire in 2nd grade.
Catherine: It’s a small area so you have closer relationships with people.

Community Arts Project
Every Thursday, learn about the different ways you can celebrate diversity in our community. Any and all artists, sculptors, researchers, and writers are welcome.

Performing Arts Students
The band, jazz band, orchestra, theatre classes, chorus, vocal ensemble, and sound technology will be
performing for each other during flex period on November 1st and 2nd.
** NOTE: This counts for a first quarter assessment grade.
Best Buddies
Best Buddies Club is having a games and crafts day in the library, on Friday, Nov 3 during flex.
