Announcements
As we continue to come to terms with the loss of an important member of our MVRHS community, we recognize that some students, staff or parents may need to connect with a counselor over the long weekend. Please reach out to Matt Malowski, one of our adjustment counselors, if you want to talk or share thoughts. Matt’s number is 508-274-0320.
Tuesday, January 16th will be a half day with a normal start time of 7:40 am and dismissal at noon. S tudents will go through an 8-period cycle (A-H) with roughly 25 minutes per class. This gives every group a chance to touch base, process the loss if needed, and have a bit of extra time to prepare for exams. There will be no flex block. Lunch will not be served. Exams will begin on Wednesday, January 17th (C&D) and will continue through Monday, January 22. Please see below for the amended exam schedule.

This performance is part of a US tour including engagements in Boston, San Diego, Dallas, New York City, Miami, Atlanta……and your very own high school. It is a flex option not to be missed: Herve Koubi is recognized as one of Europe’s most distinctive choreographers and you have the chance to see his international company for free during your school day in this special extended Flex Block! https://www.jacobspillow.org/events/compagnie-herve-koubi/

DIVERSITY PHOTO CONTEST INFORMATION:
In lieu of interviewing a staff person this week, we asked Tiffiney Shoquist, one of our fantastic art teachers, about the Diversity Photo Contest the Art Department is holding. Students were asked to share their perspective on diversity by entering a photo into the photo contest…
The Call for Submissions: To celebrate and honor the diversity of our community, students, art department faculty, and administration are creating a space to display what makes our school and Island special. Share your perspective on diversity by entering a photo into our photo contest and you might win $100!
Why a photo contest?
There are a lot of reasons we wanted to hold the photo contest. Mainly, it has to do with showcasing the unique population of MVRHS and Martha’s Vineyard. We also wanted to celebrate student creativity in a new way, rather than doing another mural. We chose to do a photo contest because we know that almost everyone in the school is carrying a camera in their pocket all day so we hope to get a lot of submissions. Not everyone feels comfortable painting a mural and that discludes a lot of people from participating in something we wanted to be a school wide endeavor.
Is there a deadline and when will we see the results?
The current deadline is January 24th, the Wednesday after midterms. Because of how busy everyone is, we may have to extend that to allow for more submissions. We are working on planning a ceremony to unveil the winning works on the hallway between rooms 501-505 sometime in February which is Black History month.
Who can enter?
Anyone can enter! We hope to get photos from a variety of students with a variety of perspectives on how they see diversity in their school, home, or community.
