On Tuesday, March 15th, the MVRHS Chess team was crowned Co-League Champs with Dartmouth High School(DHS)!
- MVRHS won the first best-of-three match, 3.5 to 1.5. Nikola Nikolov (Board #1), Kestutis Biskis (Board #2), Caleb DosSantos (Board #4) scored a point each with their win, while Legend Silva (Board #5) scored the 1/2 point with a draw.
- DHS easily won the second match, 4-1. Freshman Finn Robinson (Board #5) scored the lone point. The third round was filled with excitement as Dartmouth posted two quick wins on Board #3 and #4.
- DHS needed only one win to secure the league title, but Legend stepped up huge with a win on Board #5. Next, Kestutis — behind in material on Board #2, pulled out a miraculous comeback – and forced a draw for a needed 1/2 point.
- All eyes are now on board #1 and MV’s Bulgarian Brute…aka Nikola Nikolov. Having already split with Dartmouth’s #1, Nikola played the rubber match slow and methodical. At the 50 minute mark, Nikola dropped his foes king — and with the win, a piece of the League Title for Team Vineyard.
