MVRHS strives to teach students to be present, accountable and collaborative during instructional time. We expect that students and teachers value our instructional time, and work to ensure students are cognitively engaged throughout our classes. Our cell phone protocols look to decrease unnecessary distraction, anxiety and conflict that can arise when students are connected with their electronics throughout the day. Finally, MVRHS looks to uphold an expectation of self-management and accountability.
Cell Phone expectations
- Students will put their cell phones away during instructional blocks. This includes when they are in transit in the hallways or waiting in offices. Please note, flex time is considered an instructional block, and therefore, phones should be put away during this time.
- The only exception to this is when students are assigned to learning centers in the cafeteria. During this time and in this space, students may use their phones for instructional purposes, unless requested not to by an LC supervisor or teacher.
- Earbuds and headphones should be put away during instructional blocks
- Students may use their phones during passing time and during lunch
- Students will be redirected if they are using their phones inappropriately. Students are expected to be appropriate and respectful in their redirection
- Frequent offenders will receive a phone call home and will be addressed by the dean.
- TAs/ Mentorships: Students should be reminded that they are visible and leaders. They are held to the standard that they manage themselves and hold themselves accountable. They need to follow the same rules that the others are held to, if not a higher standard.
