Greetings MVRHS Community!
What a week for MVRHS students! We are celebrating lots of accomplishments on the stage, the playing field, the gym and in the academic realm. I hope that everyone was able to be part of at least one of these exciting events over the past week–from enjoying the talented performers in Chicago, to cheering on our postseason bound athletes as they wind down their regular season games.
While students are out for winter vacation next week, there will be lots of activity in the MVRHS building. Our long awaited tech upgrade will begin with recabling in the ceilings and the installation of our digital phone and PA system! We will also continue replacing classroom floor tiles and carpeting, and the renovation of the iCare Suite in room 504.

Spring Sports Registration Open
Registration for all MVRHS spring sports is now open! Spring sports include: Baseball, Boys and Girls Lacrosse, Softball, Boys and Girls Track, Unified Track, Sailing, and Boys and Girls Tennis. Early registration will close on March 16th at midnight. Registration for spring sports is completed via Family ID. To be eligible to participate, you must make sure you have completed all registration information. Register here.
Lost and Found / Personal Belongings
There is a growing pile of both lost and found items and personal belongings overwhelming the front lobby of the school. To keep this space clean and presentable we will be clearing it out. If students need storage space for belongings, they can request a locker with Ms. Claussen in the Student Affairs Office. On Friday, 2/24 everything still in the lobby will be donated to those in need.
Alateen Offering
MVRHS is excited to partner with our local Alateen chapter and offer weekly meetings during Flex. Alateen is a place where students come together to: share experiences, strength, and hope with each other to find effective ways to cope with problems; discuss difficulties and encourage one another; and help each other understand the principles of the Al-Anon program through the use of the Twelve Steps and Alateen’s Twelve Tradition. Alateen is not: for teenagers seeking help for drinking or drug problems or a therapy program to complain about parents or anyone else; a social hangout, or a religious gathering. If you are interested in referring your child to this meeting, please reach out to Amy Lilavois.
Chess Club Tournament
The Chess Club will be sponsoring an all girls tournament. Sign ups will be next week. Contact Vivian Peak or Maria Sanchez Roa next week to sign up for the event. Prizes will be awarded for first and second place. Contact Mr. Reap or any chess club member for extra information.

Raising Tech Healthy Teens in Tech Healthy Families
Join Janell Burley Hofmann, international author, speaker and consultant specializing in technology, media, health, relationships and well being for a workshop on ‘Raising Tech Healthy Teens’. For parents of 8-12 grade – Wednesday, February 22nd at 6 pm at MVRHS Library. More details here.
PFLAG Dinner
The Island Wide Youth Collaborative and the Youth Task Force are hosting a ‘Dinner and Conversation’ with Joe Lima, President of PFLAG Cape Cod and current parent members on February 23rd at 6:15 pm at the YMCA Teen Center. Join to learn more about PFLAG’s work to provide support, education & advocacy to parents, families, friends, allies & members of the LGBTQ+ community. RSVP to ageroche@mvcommunityservices.org. FREE for Parents CPR and First Aid Certification
The Island Wide Youth Collaborative will be hosting a FREE CPR & First aid training for parents/caregivers of youth ages 18 and under, on Wednesday, March 8 and Thursday, March 9, from 5 to 8 PM. Parents will learn the basics of first aid and CPR safety with AED component to become certified. If you are a parent or caregiver of young children interested in becoming CPR certified, or know of someone that can benefit from this important workshop, please register. Register here.
Chicago Dazzles!
Congratulations to the cast of Chicago and the Performing Arts Department staff for putting on four incredible shows to packed audiences over the weekend! “The show opened Thursday night at the Performing Arts Center, and Friday night’s audience, which packed the nearly 800-seat theatre, exploded in applause for a cast that included seniors Jack Crawford as Billy, Annabelle Brothers as Roxie, Faith Fecitt as Velma, and junior Huck Moore as Amos.” Louisa Hufstader, Vineyard Gazette (Chicago Sizzles at Performing Arts Center, Vineyard Gazette)
MVRHS Science Rocks!
Mr. Hall’s Honors Biology students completed their cell model assignment last week. They showed their creativity building models using all sorts of media: cake, pizza, legged, wood, cardboard, 3D printing….an impressive display of colors, knowledge and ingenuity! Sports Highlights
Girls Hockey – 11-5-2 record heading into the final two regular season games! The team is on a five game win streak and hoping to make it seven to finish out the season. Girls have clinched the program’s first State Tournament berth since 2015!
Boys Basketball – Beat Abington to go 17-1, currently the team is ranked #13 in Division 3. Boys have clinched the Cape and Island league title with an undefeated record.
Girls Track & Field – on Thursday 2/16, Camille Brand won the MIAA Division 5 championship in the high jump. She is only the second Vineyard girl ever to capture a division title for Indoor Track. Camille jumped 5’2” to best 24 girls that qualified for the right to compete. Joining Brand will be Adrienne Christy who placed 2nd in the two mile with a time of 11:44. Both will compete in the meet of champions on 2/25.
Boys Track & Field – Also on Thursday, Daniel Serpa finished fourth at the MIAA Division 5 championship in the 1000m. Daniel will join Adrienne and Camille at the meet of champions – which features the top 24 competitors in each event statewide.
Girls Basketball – Won vs. Saint John Paul II on Friday for Senior Night 36-27. The team was lead by seniors Josie Welch with a double double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, Maria Andrade with 8 points and 7 rebounds and CJ Walsh with 4 points, 13 rebounds and 4 monster blocks! It was a great end to a successful season for the girls. Please congratulate these three seniors on a fantastic basketball career here at MVRHS.

Olá Comunidade MVRHS!
Que semana para os estudantes da MVRHS! Estamos celebrando muitas realizações no palco, no campo de jogo, na academia e no âmbito acadêmico. Espero que todos tenham podido participar de pelo menos um desses eventos emocionantes durante a semana passada – desde desfrutar dos talentosos artistas em Chicago até torcer pelos nossos atletas que estão na pós-temporada, enquanto eles encerram os jogos da temporada regular.
Enquanto os estudantes estiverem fora do prédio para as férias de inverno na próxima semana, haverá muita atividade no prédio da MVRHS. Nossa tão aguardada atualização tecnológica começará com a habilitação nos tetos e a instalação de nosso telefone digital e sistema de PA! Continuaremos também substituindo os tetos e tapetes das salas de aula e a renovação do iCare Suite no quarto 504.

Spring Sports Registration Open
As inscrições para todos os esportes de mola da MVRHS estão abertas no momento. Os esportes de primavera incluem: Baseball, Lacrosse masculino e feminino, Softball, Pista masculina e feminina, Pista unificada, Vela, e Tênis masculino e feminino. As inscrições antecipadas serão encerradas no dia 16 de março à meia-noite. As inscrições para os esportes de primavera são concluídas através do Family ID. Para ser elegível para participar, você deve certificar-se de ter completado todas as informações de inscrição. Registre-se aqui.
Perdidos e Achados / Pertences Pessoais
Há uma pilha crescente de itens perdidos e achados e de pertences pessoais que sobrecarregam o lobby da frente da escola. Para manter este espaço limpo e apresentável, estaremos limpando-o. Se os estudantes precisarem de espaço para guardar seus pertences, podem solicitar um armário com a Sra. Claussen no Escritório de Assuntos Estudantis. Na sexta-feira, dia 24/24, tudo o que ainda estiver no vestíbulo será doado aos necessitados.
Oferta de Alateen
A MVRHS está entusiasmada em fazer parceria com nosso capítulo local do Alateen e oferecer reuniões semanais durante o Flex. Alateen é um lugar onde os estudantes se reúnem para: compartilhar experiências, força e esperança uns com os outros para encontrar maneiras eficazes de lidar com os problemas; discutir dificuldades e encorajar uns aos outros; e ajudar uns aos outros a entender os princípios do programa Al-Anon através do uso dos Doze Passos e da Doze Tradição de Alateen. Alateen não é: para adolescentes que buscam ajuda para problemas de bebida ou drogas ou um programa de terapia para reclamar dos pais ou de qualquer outra pessoa; um convívio social ou uma reunião religiosa. Se você estiver interessado em encaminhar seu filho a esta reunião, por favor, procure Amy Lilavois.
Torneio do Clube de Xadrez
O Clube de Xadrez patrocinará um torneio para todas as meninas. As inscrições serão na próxima semana. Entre em contato com Vivian Peak ou Maria Sanchez Roa na próxima semana para se inscrever para o evento. Os prêmios serão concedidos para o primeiro e segundo lugares. Entre em contato com o Sr. Reap ou qualquer membro do Clube de Xadrez para obter informações extras.

A Island Wide Youth Collaborative e a Força Tarefa Jovem estão organizando um ‘Jantar e Conversa’ com Joe Lima, Presidente da PFLAG Cape Cod e atuais membros pais no dia 23 de fevereiro às 18h15 no Centro de Jovens da YMCA. Junte-se para saber mais sobre o trabalho da PFLAG para fornecer apoio, educação e defesa aos pais, famílias, amigos, aliados e membros da comunidade LGBTQ+. GRÁTIS para os pais Certificação de RCP e Primeiros Socorros
A Island Wide Youth Collaborative receberá um treinamento gratuito de RCP e primeiros socorros para pais/educadores de jovens de 18 anos ou menos, na quarta-feira, 8 de março e quinta-feira, 9 de março, das 17 às 20 horas. Os pais aprenderão as noções básicas de primeiros socorros e segurança em RCP com o componente AED para serem certificados. Se você é pai ou cuidador de crianças pequenas interessadas em obter a certificação de RCP, ou conhece alguém que pode se beneficiar desta importante oficina, favor registrar-se. Cadastre-se aqui.

Parabéns ao elenco de Chicago e à equipe do Departamento de Artes Cênicas por terem realizado quatro espetáculos incríveis para plateias lotadas durante o fim de semana! “O espetáculo abriu na noite de quinta-feira no Centro de Artes Cênicas, e o público de sexta-feira à noite, que lotou o teatro de quase 800 lugares, explodiu em aplausos para um elenco que incluía os mais velhos Jack Crawford como Billy, Annabelle Brothers como Roxie, Faith Fecitt como Velma, e Junior Huck Moore como Amos”. Os alunos do Sr. Hall’s Honors Biology concluíram seu trabalho de modelo de célula na semana passada. Eles mostraram sua criatividade construindo modelos usando todo tipo de mídia: bolo, pizza, legged, madeira, papelão, impressão 3D…. uma exibição impressionante de cores, conhecimento e engenhosidade! Destaques esportivos
Girls Hockey – Recorde de 11-5-2 para os dois últimos jogos da temporada regular. Estamos em uma série de 5 vitórias e esperamos chegar a 7 para terminar a temporada. As garotas conquistaram o primeiro lugar do programa no Torneio Estadual desde 2015!
Basquetebol masculino – Derrote Abington por 17-1, atualmente o time é o número 13 na Divisão 3. Os garotos conquistaram o título da Liga do Cabo e da Ilha com um recorde invicto.
Girls Track & Field – Na quinta-feira 2/16, a marca Camille ganhou o campeonato da Divisão 5 da MIAA no salto em altura. Ela é apenas a segunda garota Vineyard a conquistar um título da divisão de Indoor Track. Camille saltou de 5’2″ para as 24 melhores meninas que se qualificaram para o direito de competir. Juntando-se a marca será Adrienne Christy, que ficou em 2º lugar nas duas milhas com tempo de 11:44. Ambas competiram no encontro das campeãs em 2/25.
Boys Track & Field – Também na quinta-feira, Daniel Serpa terminou em quarto lugar no campeonato da Divisão 5 da MIAA, nos 1000m. Daniel se juntará a Adrienne e Camille no encontro dos campeões – que apresenta os 24 melhores competidores em cada evento em todo o estado.

A equipe foi liderada pela seniors Josie Welch com um duplo duplo de 14 pontos e 10 rebotes, Maria Andrade com 8 pontos e 7 rebotes e CJ Walsh com 4 pontos, 13 rebotes e 4 blocos monstruosos! Foi um grande final para uma temporada de sucesso para as meninas. Por favor, parabenize estas três idosas por uma fantástica carreira no basquete aqui na MVRHS.
