Please join me in appreciating our teachers and our staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. We have an incredible staff with a really wide range of talents, and are able to give our island students incredible opportunities. Thank you, MVRHS teachers!
I’m also excited to share that we have reached another milestone in our MSBA sponsored building project, bringing us one step closer to realizing our vision for the future. Tappé Architects was officially selected by the MSBA Design Selection panel on Tuesday, April 23rd. Tappé has extensive experience working in the community and MVRHS. As many of you know, Tappé created our 2016 Space Needs Study. They are the current architects of the Tisbury School Project and were the architects of the Edgartown Library. Thank you to our district representatives on the design selection panel. Our work can now begin on the visioning process for a new renovation/build. Contributions and ideas from the MVRHS community will be crucial as we shape the vision for our project, ensuring that it reflects the needs and aspirations of our community.

Mother’s Day Plant Sale May 11
The CTE-Horticulture program is having our annual mother’s day weekend plant sale fundraiser this Saturday, May 11th from 9am-12pm. There will be selections of herbs and vegetables, flowering annuals and herbaceous perennials. All proceeds support the CTE-Horticulture program.
Minnesingers Spring Concert May 11-12
MVRHS Minnesingers presents Liebeslieder on May 11 at 7pm and May 12 at 2pm at the PAC. Elvis, the Isley Brothers, sparkle dresses and more!
Final Exams
We are approaching the end of the second semester and final exam week! Assessments are given in all courses including electives. TAs, study halls, and independent studies do not have assessments. Students ONLY need to attend school during the times that they have a scheduled assessment. Each of these days will be half days In order to ensure a successful assessment week, please review the expectations and important information linked below:

Policy Updates
Check out the recently updated MYPS policies, which have been revised to align with the requirements from the Massachusetts Department of Secondary and Elementary Education. You can access these updated policies on our website under the Administration section, specifically under Plans and Policies or using the following links. It’s important to note that any changes resulting from these updates will be incorporated into the Handbook update process scheduled for June 2024. The revised Handbook will then be published and distributed at the beginning of the next school year, ensuring that all families have access to the most current information.
Hospitality Field Trip
The MVRHS Business Department is offering a Hospitality and Tourism class in the Fall Semester 2024. The class is open to all current Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors that are interested in Hospitality Management. Harbor View Hotel is partnering with MVRHS to develop this course. Learn about Hotel management, Dining Room Management, Culinary opportunities and Facilities Management. During the semester there will be guest speakers from the hotel as well as periodic student visits to the hotel. Sign up for this initial tour of the Harbor View. There will be management presentations and a tour of the Harbor View. The Field Trip is scheduled for Thursday May 23, 10:20-12:10 and is open to the first 20 students that register. Massachusetts Science and Engineering Fair
Congratulations to Molly Crawford, Kyle Levy, and Elliot Stead, who represented MVRHS at the Massachusetts Science and Engineering Fair, held at Gillette Stadium on Friday April 5, 2024 Molly and Elliot were selected to share their projects at the MSEF Student Symposium held at MIT on May 4, 2024. The symposium is an opportunity for students to connect and share ideas with other STEM students, science professionals, and STEM organizations from across the state.
High School View Receives Top Award
MVRHS’ student-run newspaper, the High School View, took home several top prizes at this year’s New England Scholastic Press Association conference! The High School View took home the all-New England award and the highest achievement award for the class III division. The High School View is published weekly in the MV Times. Congratulations!

Health Assisting Program Students Complete Clinical Hours
Exciting news in the MVRHS Health Assisting Program! Students are completing their clinical hours at JML Care Center in Falmouth, Ma. These students are demonstrating their Nursing Assistant knowledge by performing personal care to the JML nursing home residents. Congratulations to the following students, on their hard work so far in this Health Assisting Program: Agata Rodrigues, Elena Giordano, Hawanny Ribeiro, Sierra Picco Flanders Tuminaro Heyman, McKensi Jackson, and Camily Fonseca.

TED Talk National Teacher of the Year Week Event
Project Vine teacher Danielle Charbonneau, the 2023 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year, visited Washington, D.C last week to speak at the TED Talk National Teacher of the Year Week Event where she presented about the way teenagers are treated in society, and specifically, about preventing teen suicide. The TED Talk will be released over the summer!

Plantas a Venda para o Dia das Mães, 11 de maio
O programa CTE-Horticulture realizará nossa venda anual de plantas para arrecadação de fundos no fim de semana do Dia das Mães neste sábado, 11 de maio, das 9h às 12h. Haverá seleções de ervas,vegetais, flores anuais e plantas perenes herbáceas. Toda a renda arrecadada será destinada ao programa CTE-Horticulture.

Exames finais
Estamos nos aproximando do final do segundo semestre e da semana dos exames finais! As avaliações são aplicadas em todos os cursos, inclusive os eletivos. TAs, salas de estudo e estudos independentes não têm avaliações. Os alunos SÓ precisam comparecer à escola durante os períodos em que tiverem uma avaliação agendada. Atualizações das políticas MVYPS
O MVYPS aprovou recentemente três políticas escolares revisadas: Conduta e Disciplina Escolar; Políticas e Procedimentos de Restrição Física; e Bullying. Essas políticas estão relacionadas abaixo e podem ser encontradas no site da MVRHS em Planos e Políticas (elas também serão refletidas no Manual Escolar de 2024-25).
Viagem de campo na area de hospitalidade
O Departamento de Negócios da MVRHS está oferecendo um curso de Hotelaria e Turismo no semestre de outono de 2024. O curso está aberto a todos os alunos do ano freshmen, sophmores e Juniors que estejam interessados em Administração de Hotelaria. O Harbor View Hotel está fazendo uma parceria com a MVRHS para desenvolver esse curso. Aprenda sobre gerenciamento de hotéis, gerenciamento de refeitórios, oportunidades culinárias e gerenciamento de instalações. Durante o semestre, haverá palestrantes convidados do hotel, bem como visitas periódicas dos alunos ao hotel. Inscreva-se para esta visita inicial ao Harbor View. Haverá apresentações de gerenciamento e um tour pelo hotel Harbor View. A excursão está programada para quinta-feira, 23 de maio, das 10h20 às 12h10, e está aberta aos primeiros 20 alunos que se inscreverem. Favor consultar o Mr. Angelico para participar. Muito obrigado!

Feira de Ciências e Engenharia de Massachusetts
Parabéns a Molly Crawford, Kyle Levy e Elliot Stead, que representaram a MVRHS na Feira de Ciências e Engenharia de Massachusetts, realizada no Gillette Stadium na sexta-feira, 5 de abril de 2024. Molly e Elliot foram selecionados para compartilhar seus projetos no Simpósio Estudantil da MSEF realizado no MIT em 4 de maio de 2024. O simpósio é uma oportunidade para os alunos se conectarem e compartilharem ideias com outros alunos STEM, profissionais da ciência e organizações STEM de todo o estado.
High School View recebe prêmio
O jornal da MVRHS administrado por estudantes, o High School View, levou para casa vários prêmios importantes na conferência da New England Scholastic Press Association deste ano! O High School View levou para casa o prêmio All-New England e o prêmio de maior realização da divisão de classe III. O High School View é publicado semanalmente no MV Times. Parabéns!
Alunos do Programa de Assistência à Saúde completam horas clínicas
Notícias empolgantes no Programa de Assistência à Saúde da MVRHS! Os alunos estão completando suas horas clínicas no JML Care Center em Falmouth, Ma. Esses alunos estão demonstrando seus conhecimentos de assistente de enfermagem ao prestar cuidados pessoais aos residentes da casa de repouso JML. Parabéns aos seguintes alunos por seu trabalho árduo até agora no Programa de Assistência Médica: Agata Rodrigues, Elena Giordano, Hawanny Ribeiro, Sierra Picco Flanders, Tuminaro Heyman, McKensi Jackson e Camily Fonseca.
Evento TED Talk da Semana Nacional do Professor do Ano
A professora do Project Vine, Danielle Charbonneau, a Professora do Ano de Massachusetts de 2023, esteve em Washington, D.C. na semana passada para falar no evento TED Talk National Teacher of the Year Week Event, onde fez uma apresentação sobre a maneira como os adolescentes são tratados na sociedade e, especificamente, sobre a prevenção do suicídio de adolescentes. O TED Talk será lançado durante o verão!
