Greetings MVRHS Community,
As we reach the end of this school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on our journey together. This year has been filled with both triumphs and challenges, and I am proud of how our school community has come together in support and solidarity.
We remember the members of our school and Vineyard community who passed away this year. Our thoughts and prayers remain with their families and friends. Despite the hardships, the MVRHS community has continued to show up for one another and continue to grow and learn. Our students have traveled the world, volunteered at local events, and received athletic and academic accolades. We are so proud of their collective resilience.
I would like to extend a special congratulations to our graduating seniors, the Class of 2024. They have come so far–starting on zoom and finishing as a cohesive class. We wish them luck and strength as they start their adult lives.

Choosing Rigor: A MVRHS Core Value
At MVRHS one of our core beliefs is that rigorous coursework prioritizes depth over quantity and encourages students to think critically and make connections across disciplines. When selecting courses at MVRHS we encourage students to challenge themselves. We want students to make academic choices that align with their future plans and their curiosity, and we believe that maturity can shape how students engage with their coursework over time. Please read this statement on the importance of rigorous coursework.

Locker Clean Out
If you have a locker, please make sure that is completely cleaned out by June 7th and your lock is returned to Rebecca Claussen in the Student Affairs Office. Any contents that remain will be donated or disposed of. If your lock is not returned your PowerSchool account will be billed $5.00 for the lock replacement.

Important End of Year Information for Seniors
Cups Day May 29th!
Cups Day is a class field day, planned and led by Student Government members from each graduating class. Students have polled classmates and selected a varsity of outdoor activities and tournaments for their class, including: tie dye t-shirts (bring a white tshirt), spike ball, capture the flag/manhunt, scavenger hunts, water balloons, crocheting, knitting, cold case , improv, and yoga.
Art/Design Student Competition
The MVRHS Portrait of a Learner highlights the transferable skills, knowledge, understandings and dispositions necessary for future success. These are key skills and dispositions that we want all MVRHS students to develop in their time here.
In taking the next step of this process, we are holding a visual design student competition for our Portrait of a Learner. Here are the details: Student Design: MVRHS Portrait of a Learner
Submissions are due to me by the last day of school. We will start next year with a faculty vote to adopt the final content and design.
MVRHS Student Showcase: Evening of the Arts
Congratulations to the MVRHS artists and art department for a celebration of art at last week’s Evening of the Arts. This annual event features a showcase of student drawings, sculptures, photography, designs, architecture, paintings, animation, games, graphics, technology, crafts, and more!

Honors Night
Last Thursday, the community celebrated the achievements of the MVRHS students from all grade levels with Honors Night. Over 500 awards were given to students celebrating excellence, effort, and leadership. Click here for a list of awardees.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day Honors
On Wednesday, May 22nd, National Girls and Women in Sports Day — MVRHS coaching legend Lisa Knight received the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s (MIAA) Distinguished Service Award at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. MVRHS freshman Kelly Pacheco and juniors Kathleen Vieira Da Silva and Aedan Coogan were also recognized for their qualities of commitment, perseverance, and achievement, and as role models for girls and women striving for excellence through sport. Soulful Showcase
MVRHS students and alumni were part of Soulful Showcase exhibit earlier this month at Galaxy Gallery – an inspiring student-driven art exhibit celebrating the creativity and talent of BIPOC students and recent alumni from MVRHS. Read more about the event and view artwork here!

Congratulations Olivia MacPherson!
On Thursday, May 23rd, graduating senior Olivia MacPherson walked for commencement at Cape Cod Community College to receive a certificate for Early Childhood Preschool Education. In total, Olivia took 8 courses at the college as a dual enrollment student, 6 of which were done outside of high school hours, and she will be continuing her education next fall at Bridgewater State University with 3 years of college level experience.

MV Women’s Groups Unite
A newly formed MVRHS Women of MV club connected with The Woman’s Club of MV last week (pictured below), forging connections and sharing stories of women’s rights and feminism. The WCOMV was founded more than 125 years ago, while the MVRHS WOMVC club was launched this year. Aula da Saudade
Daniel Soares held a special ‘Aula da Saudade’ class for his Portuguese senior students on May 24th. According to Daniel, ‘Aula da Saudade’ translates to “…a mixture of longing and nostalgia..” It is a traditional class held in Brazil on the last day of a senior’s class, so they can have a time to recapture memories of the time they spent in the school and the Portuguese program. Sailing Team Places at Terk Regatta
After two days of rough sailing, Sail Martha’s Vineyard MVRHS Sailing team finished 4th at this year’s Terk Regatta. This great group of young sailors finished as the 5th public school in New England and best in Massachusetts public schools.

Saudações, comunidade da MVRHS,
Ao chegarmos ao final deste ano letivo, quero reservar um momento para refletir sobre nossa jornada juntos. Este ano foi repleto de triunfos e desafios, e estou orgulhoso de como nossa comunidade escolar se uniu em apoio e solidariedade.
Lembramos os membros de nossa escola e da comunidade de Vineyard que faleceram este ano. Nossos pensamentos e orações permanecem com suas famílias e amigos. Apesar das dificuldades, a comunidade da MVRHS continuou a se apoiar mutuamente e a crescer e aprender. Nossos alunos viajaram pelo mundo, trabalharam como voluntários em eventos locais e receberam elogios esportivos e acadêmicos. Estamos muito orgulhosos de sua resiliência coletiva.
Gostaria de dar os parabéns especiais aos nossos formandos, a Turma de 2024. Eles chegaram tão longe – começando com o zoom e terminando como uma turma coesa. Desejamos a eles sorte e força no início de suas vidas adultas.

Todo o conteúdo que restar será doado ou descartado. Se o cadeado não for devolvido, será cobrado US$ 5,00 da sua conta do PowerSchool pela substituição do cadeado.

Cups Day em 29 de maio!
O Cups Day é um dia de campo da turma, planejado e liderado pelos membros do Student Government de cada turma de formandos. Os alunos fizeram uma pesquisa com os colegas e selecionaram uma série de atividades e torneios ao ar livre para suas turmas, incluindo: camisetas tie dye (traga uma camiseta branca), spike ball, captura da bandeira/caça ao homem, caça ao tesouro, balões d’água, crochê, tricô, cold case, improvisação e ioga.
Concurso de Arte/Design para Alunos
O Retrato de um Aluno da MVRHS destaca as habilidades transferíveis, o conhecimento, a compreensão e as disposições necessárias para o sucesso futuro. Essas são as principais habilidades e disposições que queremos que todos os alunos da MVRHS desenvolvam em seu tempo aqui.
Para dar o próximo passo nesse processo, estamos realizando um concurso de design visual para o nosso Retrato de um Aluno. Aqui estão os detalhes: Projeto do aluno:Retrato de um aluno da MVRHS.
As inscrições devem ser enviadas para mim até o último dia de aula. Começaremos o próximo ano com uma votação do corpo docente para adotar o conteúdo e o design finais.
Aula da Saudade
Daniel Soares realizou uma aula especial de “Aula da Saudade” para seus alunos sênior de português no dia 24 de maio. De acordo com Daniel, “Aula da Saudade” significa “…uma mistura de saudade e nostalgia…”. É uma aula tradicional realizada no Brasil no último dia de aula dos alunos do último ano, para que eles possam ter um momento para recuperar as lembranças do tempo que passaram na escola e no programa de português. Mostra de alunos da MVRHS: Evening of the Arts (Noite das Artes)
Parabéns aos artistas e ao departamento de arte da MVRHS pela celebração da arte na Evening of the Arts da semana passada. Esse evento anual apresenta uma mostra de desenhos, esculturas, fotografias, projetos, arquitetura, pinturas, animação, jogos, gráficos, tecnologia, artesanato e muito mais! Noite das honras

Honras do Dia Nacional das Meninas e Mulheres no Esporte
Na quarta-feira, 22 de maio, Dia Nacional das Meninas e Mulheres no Esporte – a lenda do treinamento da MVRHS, Lisa Knight, recebeu o Prêmio de Serviço Distinto da Associação Atlética Interescolar de Massachusetts (MIAA) no Gillette Stadium em Foxborough. A caloura da MVRHS Kelly Pacheco e as juniores Kathleen Vieira da Silva e Aedan Coogan também foram reconhecidas por suas qualidades de comprometimento, perseverança e realização, e como modelos para meninas e mulheres que buscam a excelência por meio do esporte. Os alunos e ex-alunos da MVRHS fizeram parte da exposição Soulful Showcase no início deste mês na Galaxy Gallery – uma exposição de arte inspiradora, realizada por alunos, que celebra a criatividade e o talento dos alunos BIPOC e ex-alunos recentes da MVRHS. Parabéns, Olivia MacPherson!
Na quinta-feira, 23 de maio, Olivia MacPherson, formanda do último ano, participou da cerimônia de formatura no Cape Cod Community College para receber um certificado de Educação Pré-escolar na Primeira Infância. No total, Olivia fez 8 cursos na faculdade como aluna de matrícula dupla, 6 dos quais foram feitos fora do horário do ensino médio, e ela continuará seus estudos no próximo outono na Bridgewater State University com 3 anos de experiência em nível universitário.
Grupos de mulheres de MV se unem
O recém-formado clube MVRHS Women of MV se uniu ao The Woman’s Club of MV na semana passada (foto abaixo), estabelecendo conexões e compartilhando histórias sobre os direitos das mulheres e o feminismo. O WCOMV foi fundado há mais de 125 anos, enquanto o clube WOMVC da MVRHS foi lançado este ano. Equipe de vela fica em 4º lugar na Terk Regatta
Depois de dois dias de navegação difícil, a equipe de vela da MVRHS Sail Martha’s Vineyard terminou em 4º lugar na Terk Regatta deste ano. Esse grande grupo de jovens velejadores terminou como a quinta escola pública da Nova Inglaterra e a melhor das escolas públicas de Massachusetts.
