Greetings MVRHS Community,
This is the time of year when our students shine! Please enjoy one or more of the many year-end events celebrating student accomplishment. Hopefully, many of you caught the annual Minnesinger performance this weekend. It was playful and fun, and showcased the range of our talented student performers. Upcoming, we have the Evening of the Arts, Honors Night and Class Night. A huge thank you to the MVRHS staff for making these events possible!

Final Exams
As the year winds down, the joyful anticipation of final exams is in the air! At MVRHS, exams are key assessments that measure what skills and content students have learned in all of their classes throughout the year. They also factor 20% into the calculation of the final semester grades. Please read this memo on final exams that was emailed last Friday.
Pilot Schedule
Phase one of our new pilot schedule started this week! The first phase of the pilot introduced a modified Monday schedule, then starting on May 30, 2023 we will introduce a flex/lunch block schedule. An email was sent yesterday to remind students about today’s schedule. Learn more about the pilot schedule here.
Brazilian Culture Fest May 18th 6-9 pm at MVRHS!

Electronics Disposal Day May 20th!
Electronics Disposal Day, hosted in partnership with Martha’s Vineyard Community Services (MVCS) is this Saturday, May 20th from 9am – 2 pm at MVRHS! Dispose of your old, tired and used electronics on island in an environmentally and COVID-safe way. All proceeds benefit both MVCS and MVRHS Student Government.
Save the Date: Evening of the Arts!
Join us Wednesday, May 24 from 6pm to 9pm to enjoy a showcase of work from students in the Art, Design, and Technology department. Work will be displayed in the Triangle Gallery and beyond, including special showcases by seniors and advanced students. From 7-8 there will be musical performances by students in the performing arts department. Free, open to the public, and fun for the whole family!
Apply for the Youth Climate Council
The Youth Climate Council will advise the Governor and the Office of Climate Innovation and Resilience on climate policy and actions to make communities more resilient. The application is open to high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. The deadline to apply is May 19, 2023.
Volunteer for the MV SOUNDFEST and earn free admission!
Students are encouraged to sign up to volunteer to assist in ticket and merchandising sales for the MV SOUNDFEST, a family-friendly concert taking place at The Cove Golf & Grill on Sunday, May 28. Sign up for a 2-3 hour shift and receive a free pass to the all-day event. Interested volunteers can email Barbara Dupree at brdupree@gmail.com. More details about the event here.
Junior Seminar
Over the years, we have heard feedback that our 10th and 11th graders could benefit from increased school-based planning around college and career. Our guidance staff works hard to meet with students and families to share information about the college process, but there is never enough time! Next year, we are experimenting with a new course called Junior Seminar. It will count as PE credit for the 11th grade year, and will embed topics and activities related to post-secondary planning and preparation.

This week, all 10th graders will receive a survey to complete if they are interested in signing up for a semester of Junior Seminar. Every rising junior is eligible to participate.
The American School for the Deaf
The American School for the Deaf came to visit the MVRHS American Sign Language students. This was the first time that the instructors met the students. The course has been taught on-line. The students were proud to show instructors all they have learned. It was wonderful to see them conversing together in ASL. The American School for the Deaf is also working on a project with the MV Museum.
Bookmark Ceremony
This year, 90 students were nominated for bookmarks at the Bookmark Ceremony. What is the Bookmark Ceremony? It’s when teachers give credit to students for going above and beyond in some capacity. The teachers write a meaningful message on the back of bookmarks, and the students have them to use. Thank you teachers for your kind words and thank you to the students and Ms. Jacques for organizing this event that recognized the good so many MVRHS students are doing.
Unified Track Sectionals
Unified Track had a successful trip to sectionals on May 10th in Middleboro. Kyra Wildanger, Quinn Littlefield, Becki DeOliveira, Connor McGrath and Alyssa Sylvia all gave tremendous efforts and won ribbons in their divisions! The team competed with 23 other high schools. More photos here.
MV Big Band Wins Music in the Park
Congratulations to MV Big Band for their big win at this year’s Great East Music Festival. Competing against high school bands from around the state, and taking home first place. Congratulations to all, and we hope you had fun at Six Flags!

Exames finais
À medida que o ano termina, a alegre expectativa dos exames finais está no ar! Na MVRHS, os exames são avaliações importantes que medem as habilidades e o conteúdo que os alunos aprenderam em todas as aulas ao longo do ano. Eles também contribuem em 20% para o cálculo das notas finais do semestre. Por favor, leia este memorando sobre os exames finais que foi enviado por e-mail na última sexta-feira.
Cronograma
A primeira fase do nosso novo cronograma começa hoje! A primeira fase introduz uma programação modificada para as segundas-feiras e, a partir de 30 de maio de 2023, introduziremos uma programação de blocos flex/almoço. Um e-mail foi enviado ontem para lembrar os alunos sobre o horário de hoje. Saiba mais sobre o cronograma piloto aqui.

Dia do descarte de eletrônicos, 20 de maio!
O Dia do Descarte de Eletrônicos, organizado em parceria com a Martha’s Vineyard Community Services (MVCS), será neste sábado, 20 de maio, das 9h às 14h, na MVRHS! Descarte seus eletrônicos velhos, cansados e usados na ilha de forma segura para o meio ambiente e para a COVID. Todos os lucros beneficiam tanto a MVCS quanto o governo estudantil da MVRHS.
Reserve a data: Noite das Artes!
Junte-se a nós na quarta-feira, 24 de maio, das 18h às 21h, para apreciar uma mostra de trabalhos dos alunos do departamento de Arte, Design e Tecnologia. Os trabalhos serão exibidos na Triangle Gallery e em outros locais, incluindo mostras especiais de alunos seniors avançados. Das 19h às 20h, haverá apresentações musicais dos alunos do departamento de artes. Gratuito, aberto ao público e divertido para toda a família!
Inscreva-se no Youth Climate Council
O Youth Climate Council aconselhará o governador e o Office of Climate Innovation and Resilience sobre políticas e ações climáticas para tornar as comunidades mais resilientes. A inscrição está aberta a alunos freshman, sophomore e juniors. O prazo para se inscrever é 19 de maio de 2023.
Seja voluntário no MV SOUNDFEST e ganhe entrada gratuita!
Os alunos são incentivados a se inscreverem como voluntários para ajudar na venda de ingressos e merchandising para o MV SOUNDFEST, um show para toda a família que será realizado no The Cove Golf & Grill no domingo, 28 de maio. Inscreva-se para um turno de 2 a 3 horas e receba um passe livre para o evento que durará o dia todo.

Seminário Júnior
Ao longo dos anos, ouvimos comentários de que nossos alunos da 10ª e 11ª séries poderiam se beneficiar de um maior planejamento escolar sobre faculdade e carreira. Nossa equipe de orientação trabalha arduamente para se reunir com os alunos e as famílias e compartilhar informações sobre o processo universitário, mas nunca há tempo suficiente! No próximo ano, estamos experimentando um novo curso chamado Seminário Júnior. Ele contará como crédito de educação física para o 11º ano e incluirá tópicos e atividades relacionados ao planejamento e à preparação para a vida pós-secundária.
Os objetivos desse curso são:
Nesta semana, todos os alunos do 10º ano receberão uma pesquisa para preencher se estiverem interessados em se inscrever em um semestre de Seminário Júnior. Todo aluno do último ano está qualificado para participar.
A Escola Americana para Surdos
A Escola Americana para Surdos veio visitar os alunos da Língua Americana de Sinais da MVRHS. Essa foi a primeira vez que os instrutores se encontraram com os alunos. O curso foi ministrado on-line. Os alunos ficaram orgulhosos de mostrar aos instrutores tudo o que aprenderam. Foi maravilhoso vê-los conversando juntos em ASL. A American School for the Deaf também está trabalhando em um projeto com o MV Museum.
Bookmark Ceremônia
Este ano, 90 alunos foram indicados para o Bookmark Cerimônia. O que é a Bookmark Cerimônia? É quando os professores dão crédito aos alunos por terem se destacado em algum aspecto. Os professores escrevem uma mensagem significativa no verso dos marcadores de página, e os alunos ficam com eles para usar. Obrigado aos professores por suas palavras gentis e obrigado aos alunos e à Sra. Jacques por organizar esse evento que reconheceu o bem que tantos alunos da MVRHS estão fazendo.
Seções de pista unificada
A Unified Track teve uma viagem bem-sucedida para as seções no dia 10 de maio em Middleboro. MV Big Band vence o Music in the Park
Parabéns à MV Big Band por sua grande vitória no Great East Music Festival deste ano. A banda competiu com bandas de escolas de ensino médio de todo o estado e levou para casa o primeiro lugar. Parabéns a todos e esperamos que tenham se divertido no Six Flags!
