Congratulations to the Performing Arts Department for pulling off a great concert last week. The Big Band had a wonderful performance at the end of the show. Kudos to all the musicians!
This week, we are pleased to host April Armstrong, who will perform her fantastic one-woman show about the early 20th century aviator, Bessie Coleman. While the curricular connections are most relevant to history, English and theater, April’s show incorporates themes and issues that relate to our broader community and Social Emotional Learning goals (self awareness, social awareness, resiliency, curiosity, love of learning). April performed “Two Wings to Heaven: The Story of Bessie Coleman“ at the Playhouse this summer, and this is what she will present to the whole student body this week.

Chopped for Charity Fundraiser March 23rd
Thursday, March 23rd is Project Vine’s Annual Cooking Competition to Benefit the Island Food Pantry. It’s a really fun, family-friendly event, with food trivia, prizes, snacks and students turning commonly donated food pantry items into some amazing meals! All proceeds and donations benefit IGI. Suggested Donation is $10: audience members get to cheer on the chefs, sample some of the food prepared and have the chance to win prizes throughout the night. All are welcome!
Parent Resource Night March 30th
Join MVRHS and MVCS’ Disability Services for Parent Resource Night: an evening for parents, families and caregivers to access the wide variety of resources available on the island. The event will take place on March 30th from 6:30 – 8 pm in the MVRHS cafeteria. Learn about resources available from the following Island providers: Island Autism, Family Support Center, Daybreak Clubhouse, Vineyard Independence Partnership, Seven Hills, Island Disability Coalition, MRC, CORD, Camp Jabberwocky, Behavioral Health, STEP, Island Employment, and Island Wide Youth Collaborative. There will also be live entertainment from MVRHS Voyager and Navigator students! Register here.
Hope and Climate Action: Art and Writing Contest
Vineyard Conservation Society’s (VCS) Art of Conservation: The theme this year is HOPE & CLIMATE ACTION. It is a special year because the award winners will be exhibited as part of the Vineyard’s second annual Climate Action Day on Sunday May 7th at the Grange. The Island has recently completed a thorough blueprint of specific actions needed for us to adapt to the effects of climate change. It is known as a Climate Action Plan. At VCS we are always focused on what needs to be done to protect the land and water of the Island.
VSC is asking students to look at the Land Use, Natural Resources and Biodiversity portion of their Climate Action Plan and find one action or an aspect of this section of the plan that interests you or makes you hopeful. With this in mind please use your writing, photography, painting, drawing, music, video, sculpture or any other art form to:

The deadline is May 2nd for physical submissions and May 1 for digital submissions. $100 cash prizes to winners! gift certificates to special distinction winners! In addition to Climate Action Day, the artwork will be displayed at the MV Film Center, as well as Mocha Motts for a whole month!

Spring Sports begin this week!
Spring sports include: Baseball, Boys and Girls Lacrosse, Softball, Boys and Girls Track, Unified Track, Sailing, and Boys and Girls Tennis. Early registration is open through March 16th. Good luck to all student-athletes trying out for a team! Games will begin the week of March 27th.

Dia da Carreira 21 de março
A MVRHS organizará um Dia de Carreira na terça-feira, 21 de março, para estudantes na cafeteria durante o Flex. Mais de 40 empresas locais estarão presentes e em busca de trabalhadores de verão em tempo integral/ meio período. Haverá uma variedade de empregos, desde restaurantes, comércio, varejo, marinha e muito mais. Esta é uma grande oportunidade para os estudantes aprenderem sobre as diferentes oportunidades de verão e carreira que estão disponíveis para eles!
Noite de Recursos para os Pais 30 de março
Junte-se aos Serviços de Deficiência da MVRHS e MVCS para a Noite de Recursos dos Pais: uma noite para pais, famílias e cuidadores terem acesso à grande variedade de recursos disponíveis na ilha. O evento acontecerá no dia 30 de março, das 18h30 às 20h, no refeitório da MVRHS. Esperança e Ação Climática: Concurso de Arte e Escrita
Arte de Conservação da Vineyard Conservation Society (VCS): O tema deste ano é: ESPERANÇA & AÇÃO CLIMÁTICA. É um ano especial porque os vencedores do prêmio serão exibidos como parte do segundo Dia Anual de Ação Climática da Vinícola no domingo 7 de maio no Grange. A Ilha completou recentemente um projeto completo de ações específicas necessárias para nos adaptarmos aos efeitos da mudança climática. É conhecido como um Plano de Ação Climática. No VCS estamos sempre focados no que precisa ser feito para proteger a terra e a água da Ilha.
Com nosso foco ambiental, estamos pedindo aos estudantes que olhem a parte de Uso da Terra, Recursos Naturais e Biodiversidade deste Plano de Ação Climática e encontrem uma ação ou um aspecto desta seção do plano que lhes interesse ou lhes faça ter esperança. Com isto em mente, por favor use sua escrita, fotografia, pintura, desenho, música, vídeo, escultura ou qualquer outra forma de arte para:

Os Esportes de Primavera começam esta semana!
Os esportes de primavera incluem: Beisebol, Lacrosse masculino e feminino, Softball, Pista Meninos e Meninas, Pista Unificada, Vela, e Tênis Meninos e Meninas. As inscrições antecipadas estão abertas até o dia 16 de março. Boa sorte a todos os estudantes-atletas que estão tentando entrar em um time! Os jogos começarão na semana de 27 de março.
