Greetings MVRHS Community!
Spring seems in the air, even if a winter storm is on the way this week. I am not anticipating any school cancellations, but please be sure to opt in for text messages from the school just in case. If you don’t already receive text messages, you can opt in by following these instructions.
Over the next few weeks, students will be making course selections for the 2023-24 school year. We have asked all teachers of sequential/required courses to make recommendations for students. These course recommendations will be visible in powerschool by April vacation.
Please take time to talk with your student about next year and what courses they may want to take. Be on the lookout for an email from the Guidance team soon – which will include a link to our Program of Studies and details about the process.
I want to shout out our staff and students for a fantastic Ski trip this past weekend! Thank you to Tabitha Clark, Sean Mulvey, Jack O’Malley and Bill Seabourne for helping chaperone and thank you to the 30 students who attended for contributing to such a smooth trip for all.

MV Intramural Basketball Info Night March 14th
Join the MV Intramural Basketball league! Open to all students. League runs mid March through mid May. No cuts and everyone plays! All high school students are encouraged to join. No cost to participate. Information, evaluation and sign up night is this Tuesday, March 14th from 6-8:30 pm in the gym.
Attention Seniors: Local Scholarship Applications due March 15th
The deadline to apply for Local Scholarships is this Wednesday, March 15th! Seniors must complete their online applications for both Section1 and Section 2 by March 15th. Please note these are separate applications! For Section 3 (non local) scholarships, seniors should follow each individual application’s directions. Refer to the Local Scholarship Booklet for details on all the scholarship offerings and application process. More info on the MVRHS website here or email Mary Korba at scholarships@mvyps.org. Performing Arts Department Concert March 16th
Please come support your MVRHS musicians this Thursday, 6:30pm in the PAC in their March concert. Concert Band, MV Big Band, and the three choral groups will perform. The Minnesingers are preparing for their first competition in 15 years, and we’ll be singing the three competition selections this week. Also, the brand new All Island Youth Chorus has its debut performance. Don’t miss it! Free admission.
Spring Sports Registration Deadline March 16th
Registration for Spring Sports closes March 16th at midnight! If interested in playing a Spring Sport (Baseball, Boys and Girls Lacrosse, Softball, Boys and Girls Track, Unified Track, Sailing, and Boys and Girls Tennis), to be eligible to participate you must make sure you have completed all registration information. Job Fair/Career Day March 21st
MVRHS will host a Career Day on Tuesday, March 21st for students in the cafeteria during Flex. Over 40 local businesses will be present and in search of summer full time/ part time workers. There will be a variety of jobs, from restaurants, trades, retail, marine and more. This is a great opportunity for students to learn of the different summer and career opportunities that are available to them! Interested students are asked to sign up here.
Project Vine’s Chopped for Charity Fundraiser March 23rd
Thursday, March 23rd is Project Vine’s Annual Cooking Competition ‘Chopped for Charity‘ to Benefit the Island Food Pantry. It’s a really fun, family-friendly event, with food trivia, prizes, snacks and students turning commonly donated food pantry items into some amazing meals! All proceeds and donations benefit IGI. Suggested Donation is $10: audience members get to cheer on the chefs, sample some of the food prepared and have the chance to win prizes throughout the night. All are welcome!
Parent Resource Night March 30th
Join MVRHS and MVCS’ Disability Services for Parent Resource Night: an evening for parents, families and caregivers of students in grades 8-12 to access the wide variety of resources available on the island. The event will take place on March 30th from 6:30 – 8 pm in the MVRHS cafeteria. Learn about resources available from the following Island providers: Island Autism, Family Support Center, Daybreak Clubhouse, Vineyard Independence Partnership, Seven Hills, Island Disability Coalition, MRC, CORD, Camp Jabberwocky, Behavioral Health, STEP, Island Employment, and Island Wide Youth Collaborative. Join a Think Tank: Win an Amazon Gift Card!
Students: come join a Think Tank to discuss alcohol and drug use in our community. The Youth Task Force is looking to collect information about substance use and what makes us choose to use and or choose to decline. What resources exist in the community around this and how accessible are these resources? What are your families telling you? Come join a casual chat for flex period on March 15 or April 5th to discuss and walk away with a gift card that’s all yours! Space is limited to 12 participants – so please email Amy Lilavois by March 13th to register while space exists.
Last Chance to Sign up for Race Culture Diversity Retreat
MVRHS will be running the Race Culture Diversity Retreat on March 30th and March 31st. This two day peer-to-peer retreat will take place at the YMCA Teen Center and offers an opportunity for our students to learn and better understand culture and diversity from each other. In doing this, we hope to create and sustain a school environment that fosters belonging, inclusiveness, respect and sensitivity towards everyone in our community. Students will be nominated by faculty but we are also asking interested students to apply on their own. Interested students should fill out this application by March 10th. Any questions, please reach out to Amy Lilavois.

MVRHS Competes in METG Theater Festival
Congratulations to the cast and crew of Metamorphoses for their incredible work competing in the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild (METG) Theater Festival last week on the mainland along with 87 other schools. The cast showed tremendous effort and walked away with several well deserved awards! Final 2022-23 Chess Tournament
Congratulations to the MV Chess Team on a great year! Here are some pictures from the League Tournament at Wareham HS last week. Nikola, Kestutis, Grady and Linus all played in the tournament. Grady placed 2nd in the Silver Division. Linus placed 3rd in the Bronze Division and Kestutis placed 4th in the Gold Division.

Boys Hockey lost a tough game in the elite 8 to the #1 seed Norwell by a score of 5-0
Boys Basketball lost in the sweet 16 to Old Rochester by a score of 59-50
Girls Hockey Lost in the round of 32 to a tournament seasoned Norwood team 5-2
Track and Field sent athletes who qualified to compete at the New Balance National Indoor Championships. CONGRATULATIONS to Sophomore Camille Brand. Camile took home 9th place at the New Balance National Indoor Championships in the high jump!

A primavera parece estar no ar, mesmo que uma tempestade de inverno esteja a caminho esta semana. Não estou prevendo nenhum cancelamento escolar, mas por favor, não deixe de optar por mensagens de texto da escola, por via das dúvidas. Se você ainda não receber as mensagens de texto, você pode optar por seguir estas instruções.
Nas próximas semanas, os alunos estarão fazendo as seleções de cursos para o ano letivo de 2023-24. Pedimos a todos os professores de cursos seqüenciais/requisitos que façam recomendações para os alunos. Estas recomendações de cursos serão visíveis na escola de energia até as férias de abril.
Por favor, reserve um tempo para conversar com seu aluno sobre o próximo ano e quais cursos eles podem querer fazer. Esteja atento a um e-mail da equipe de Orientação em breve – que incluirá um link para nosso Programa de Estudos e detalhes sobre o processo.

Noite Info de Basquete Intramural MV 14 de março
Participe da liga de Basquete Intramural MV! Aberto a todos os estudantes. A liga funciona de meados de março a meados de maio. Sem cortes e todos jogam! Todos os alunos do ensino médio são incentivados a participar. Não há custo para participar. Informações, avaliação e inscrição são nesta terça-feira, 14 de março, das 18 às 20h30 no ginásio.

O prazo para solicitar Bolsas de Estudo Locais é esta quarta-feira, 15 de março! Os idosos devem completar suas inscrições on-line tanto para a Seção 1 quanto para a Seção 2 até 15 de março. Favor notar que estas são candidaturas separadas! Para as bolsas de estudo da Seção 3 (não locais), os idosos devem seguir as instruções de cada inscrição individual. Concerto do Departamento de Artes Cênicas 16 de março
Por favor, venha apoiar seus músicos da MVRHS nesta quinta-feira, às 18h30 no PAC em seu concerto de março. A banda de concerto, MV Big Band, e os três grupos corais se apresentarão. Os Minnesingers estão se preparando para sua primeira competição em 15 anos, e esta semana vamos cantar as três seleções da competição. A MVRHS organizará um Dia de Carreira na terça-feira, 21 de março, para estudantes na cafeteria durante o Flex. Mais de 40 empresas locais estarão presentes e em busca de trabalhadores de verão em tempo integral/ meio período. Haverá uma variedade de empregos, desde restaurantes, comércio, varejo, marinha e muito mais. Esta é uma grande oportunidade para os estudantes aprenderem sobre as diferentes oportunidades de verão e carreira que estão disponíveis para eles! Chopped for Charity Fundraiser 23 de março
Quinta-feira, 23 de março é o Concurso Anual de Culinária do Projeto Vinha para Beneficiar a Despensa Alimentar da Ilha. É um evento realmente divertido e familiar, com trivialidades alimentares, prêmios, lanches e estudantes transformando itens de despensa de alimentos doados comumente em algumas refeições incríveis! Todos os lucros e doações beneficiam o IGI. A doação sugerida é de US$ 10: os membros do público podem torcer pelos chefs, provar alguns dos alimentos preparados e ter a chance de ganhar prêmios durante toda a noite. Todos são bem-vindos!

Estudantes: venha participar de um Think Tank para discutir o uso de álcool e drogas em nossa comunidade. A Força Tarefa Jovem está procurando coletar informações sobre o uso de substâncias e o que nos faz escolher usar e ou optar por recusar. Que recursos existem na comunidade em torno disto e quão acessíveis são estes recursos? O que suas famílias estão lhe dizendo? Venha participar de um bate-papo casual para o período flex em 15 de março ou 5 de abril para discutir e ir embora com um cartão presente que é todo seu! O espaço é limitado a 12 participantes – portanto, envie um e-mail para Amy Lilavois até o dia 13 de março para se inscrever enquanto houver espaço.
Última Chance para se inscrever no Retiro de Diversidade Cultural da Raça
MVRHS realizará o Retiro de Diversidade da Cultura da Raça nos dias 30 e 31 de março. Este retiro de dois dias de duração entre pares acontecerá no Centro de Jovens da YMCA e oferece uma oportunidade para nossos alunos aprenderem e entenderem melhor a cultura e a diversidade uns dos outros. Ao fazer isso, esperamos criar e manter um ambiente escolar que fomente o pertencimento, a inclusão, o respeito e a sensibilidade em relação a todos em nossa comunidade. Os alunos serão indicados pelo corpo docente, mas também estamos pedindo aos alunos interessados que se candidatem por conta própria. Os alunos interessados devem preencher esta inscrição até 10 de março. Qualquer dúvida, por favor, entre em contato com Amy Lilavois.

Torneio de Xadrez Final 2022-23
Parabéns à equipe de Xadrez MV por um ótimo ano! Aqui estão algumas fotos do Torneio da Liga na Wareham HS na semana passada. Nikola, Kestutis, Grady e Linus jogaram todos no torneio.
