Martha's Vineyard Regional High School

June 10, 2016

Student Experience Profile: Connor Downing

Name: Connor Downing
Summer Program/ Company Name: Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Frontiers Summer Program
Location: Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Length of Program: 2 weeks
Description of what you did: I stayed at Worcester Polytechnic’s campus for two weeks. Over those two weeks I took classes which I had signed up for. I chose biochemistry for my science class and band for my arts class. We took each class with other members of the program. The classes were taught by the college’s professors and gave us students a taste of what could come in our college experience. On the weekends and at nights there were always different activities to partake in.
Likes: Offered the experience of living at a college, professor was passionate about what he did, variety of activities, mix of science and arts focus.
Dislikes: Not any that I can think of.
Did the program influence what you plan on doing in college? If so explain: It influenced which intended major I ended up choosing for college.
Did the program teach you something important or influence you in a meaningful way:
It taught me that science in college won’t be all about sitting in the classroom and working out problems. There will be opportunities to do interesting labs and work alongside professors in their research.
