Dear MVRHS families,
I know that yesterday brought on a range of experiences and emotions. For some, this new plan is a welcomed change. For others, it may be anxiety-inducing. Hopefully, in time, this new routine will strengthen connections between teachers and among classmates and promote engagement with the coursework. We welcome feedback about how we can make it better. Changes may not happen immediately, but we all are committed to making this work as well as possible.
In anticipation of some questions, we put together an FAQ. We have also attached a letter about online etiquette. Please read both.

FAQ
Q: When does the remote learning plan start?
A: This week! Teachers will reach out in different ways, but your classwork posting schedule and/or videoconference check ins and activities should start this week.
Q: I see the remote learning plan, and I understand that there will be some direct, face to face engagement as part of my classes now, and work assigned will start to matter. I am an essential worker and sometimes provide childcare for my siblings. What does this mean for me?
A: We know that this is a very challenging time for all, and that families will have very different experiences, commitments and circumstances. For that reason, school may take a back seat to other things over the next few months. If you have extenuating circumstances that will substantially interfere with keeping up with schoolwork at this time, please reach out to your guidance counselor so that we can figure out what will work for you.
Q: Is the teacher going to be teaching classes like they do when school is in session?
A: Teachers will approach the work in different ways. There is no way for us to replicate the classroom experience. Some teachers will use videoconferencing to share and explain the week’s assignment. Some may use videoconferencing to check in and ensure students are able to ask questions. Some teachers may use it to teach concepts and materials, give notes, etc. Some teachers may send an email explaining an assignment and giving links to resources. If students need additional support, they should ask to meet a teacher during office hours.
Q: Do I need to be present for all group video conferences?
A: Not necessarily, but we want you to be engaged. You should talk with your teacher about alternative ways to connect and get the material shared during the videoconference. This could be office hours or something else.
Q: What are the expectations of me while I am online during class?

Q: Will all teachers use Zoom or Google hangouts?
A: No. Not everyone will use the same platform to share and explain the work. Many teachers will use a videoconference (Zoom or Google Meetup), but others may record a video, or share a slideshow or engage in text based chats through google classroom. Please check google classroom and your email to see what each of your teachers plans to do.
Q: Do I need to do all the work assigned? I have been buried by the assignments flowing in since we left school March 18. What counts? What doesn’t?
A: You should do enough work to earn a pass, and that will vary class to class. Talk to your teacher and your guidance counselor about what that means. The work assigned from April 6 on will count towards the pass/fail determination at the end of the quarter. You will be getting assignments for a class only once a week, and then you have a full week to complete it. We are hoping that this schedule will make things easier and simpler for everyone.

P: Quais são as minhas expectativas enquanto estou online durante as aulas?

P: O professor vai dar aulas como se estivessem na sala de aula?
R: Os professores abordarão o trabalho de maneiras diferentes. Não há como replicar a experiência da sala de aula. Alguns professores usarão videoconferência para compartilhar e explicar a tarefa da semana. Alguns podem usar videoconferência para fazer check-in e garantir que os alunos possam fazer perguntas. Alguns professores podem usá-lo para ensinar conceitos e materiais, fazer anotações etc. Alguns professores podem enviar um e-mail explicando uma tarefa e fornecendo links para recursos. Se os alunos precisarem de apoio adicional, devem pedir para encontrar um professor durante o horário comercial.

R: Sabemos que este é um momento muito desafiador para todos e que as famílias terão experiências, compromissos e circunstâncias muito diferentes. Por esse motivo, a escola pode ficar atrás de outras opções nos próximos meses. Se você tiver circunstâncias importantes que irão interferir substancialmente com o acompanhamento dos trabalhos escolares no momento, entre em contato com seu orientador para que possamos descobrir o que funcionará para você.
P: Preciso estar presente em uma videoconferência em grupo?
A: Não necessariamente, mas queremos que você se envolva. Você deve conversar com seu professor sobre formas alternativas de se conectar e compartilhar o material durante a videoconferência. Pode ser o horário de expediente ou outra coisa.
P: Todos os professores usarão os Hangouts Zoom ou Google?
R: Não. Nem todos usarão a mesma plataforma para compartilhar e explicar o trabalho. Muitos professores usarão uma videoconferência (Zoom ou Google Meetup), mas outros poderão gravar um vídeo, compartilhar uma apresentação de slides ou participar de bate-papos baseados em texto na sala de aula do Google. Verifique o Google Sala de aula e seu e-mail para ver o que cada um de seus professores planeja fazer.
P: Preciso fazer todo o trabalho atribuído? Estou lotado de tarefas que entraram desde que saímos da escola, em 18 de março. O que conta? O que não faz?
R: Você deve trabalhar bastante para passar, e isso varia de classe para classe. Converse com seu professor e seu orientador sobre o que isso significa. O trabalho designado a partir de 6 de abril contará para a determinação de aprovação / reprovação no final do trimestre. Você receberá tarefas para uma aula apenas uma vez por semana e terá uma semana inteira para concluí-la. Esperamos que esse cronograma torne as coisas mais fáceis e mais simples para todos.
