Announcements

• TAKE THE NEW MVRHS STUDENT SURVEY !!
• Community Service Give Back Day: Monday May 21: all MVRHS students and and staff will take part in an island wide community service day, volunteering at about 40 island organizations. This will be in place of academic classes. Students will arrive to school that morning and be briefed about where they are going and what they will be doing there. They will then take a bus to those locations where they will carry out these tasks alongside MVRHS staff and with the help of student leaders. They will be brought back to the school in time for lunch and a quick follow up on the days work. Attendance will be taken throughout the day and transportation will be provided. Students should not take miss this day as it is a great way to give back to the island and organizations that have given us so much.
• STING (Smoothly Transitioning Into Ninth Grade) – Originally a senior project, STING is a full day MVRHS orientation for incoming freshmen. Through a series of games, small and large group activities the program focuses which range from extracurricular activities to grades; to relationships and making safe choices; to balancing activities, social life and school work. The orientation is co-led by current freshmen and sophomores. STING takes place Tuesday, May 22.
• Evening of the Arts & World Language Night : Wednesday, May 23rd at MVRHS – come and see amazing student art and taste some delicious cuisine from around the world at our around the world buffet – 6pm start time!
• Plant Sale : May 23-26 from 8am- 1pm, head on down to the horticulture greenhouse at MVRHS and buy some plants!!
• Math MCAS testing will take place on Wednesday, May 23rd and Thursday, May 24th for the 10th graders. Note: room changes this week will be posted and emailed out to teachers.
• Comedy Benefit: On Friday, May 25th, MVRHS’s Business Club is hosting a comedy benefit, located at the Comedy Lounge! Cocktails start at 7:00pm and the show starts 8:00 pm. You have to be 21 or older to attend. Tickets are on sale now for $30 at ComedyLoungeMV.com
• Open Campus Privilege: The school is considering letting next year’s seniors “in good standing” schedule one “free” period. If their free block is either first or last period, they may come in late and/or leave early by checking with Inez. If a senior’s free block falls in the middle of the day, students may not drive off campus, but will be allowed to walk to surrounding areas such as the YMCA, skatepark, or other surrounding areas. They will not be allowed to wander the halls or interrupt classes. If seniors choose to stay in the building, they may go to the cafeteria. Students will remain in good standing as long as they:
  • Serve consequences when assigned and do not have any missed consequences on record;
  • Are not on social probation as a result of suspension;
  • Have not cut class or school on the school day of an event (if the activity/event is on a weekend, the school day immediately prior to the event counts);
  • Are not a safety concern to the community; and
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to comply with the reasonable requests of adults and be redirected in the moment.

    • NEXT YEAR’S SENIORS WILL GET THIS OPPORTUNITY IN EARLY JUNE!
• Lockdown Video and Drill: On Tuesday May 26th, students will watch a video on the “Run. Hide. Fight.” to help educate them on what do during a real life lockdown. On June 5th students will partake in a lockdown drill.

• NO SCHOOL MONDAY! Long weekend this weekend thanks to Memorial Day on Monday 5/28.
• MA State Science Fair: 3 MVRHS students competed at the MA State Science Fair held annually at MIT in Cambridge. Students participated in a 2-day event where they presented their projects to 5 different judges. More than 300 projects were on display at the fair. Curtis Fisher received a Third Place Award, Book Award, Youth Science Camp Award, and Teachers Association Award for his project. Congratulations to all 3 students for their hard work on their science and engineering projects!
