Vineyarders of the Week

This week we interviewed Andrew Karlinsky and Gus Hoy, 2 students who are helping with the All School Community Service Day.

The Community Service Give Back Day will be on Monday, May 21st. All students will be finding out where they are going this week. If you have any questions, feel free to find Andrew and Gus or head down to room 511 and talk to Ms. Thulin!

What grade are you in?

Andrew : I am a junior.

Gus : I am a junior.

What is your favorite class?

Andrew : My favorite class is math.

Gus : My favorite class is history with Mrs. Kurtz.

Do you participate in any other clubs or school activities?

Andrew : I play lacrosse and I’m a member of SWEAR and Peer Outreach.

Gus : I am a member of the Social and Global Change Club, Student Council and Peer Outreach.

How did you get involved in the Islander Give Back Day?

Andrew : I took the Globals Politics and Civics class, the class organizing the day..

Gus: I joined the Global Politics and Civics course with Ms. Thulin and she suggested to us that it would be great to do a community give back day.

Are you both student leaders? If so, what are you most excited about?

Andrew: Yes, I am a student leader and I’m excited to go back to the West Tisbury School and give back to the school that helped me for many years.

Gus: Yes, I am a student leader and I’m excited to go back to the Oak Bluffs School, see my roots and see how everything is going. I went there for 8 years and I am excited to give back to the school that shaped me into who I am today.

What are some things that you hope students will take away from this event?

Andrew : That it is cool to help out.

Gus: Community service isn’t just punishment for doing bad things, it is an act that is actually valuable, when you walk away you will feel accomplished and you will be giving back to the community.

Andrew: I used to be a huge acting guy in middle school.

Gus: I am a little sweetheart on the inside.

The Hunting Ground. Film to be shown in the PAC. Seniors Only, Friday 5/24.

The Hunting Ground is a documentary film about the incidence of sexual assault on college campuses in the United States and what its creators say is a failure of college administrations to deal with it adequately. The documentary focuses on Annie E. Clark and Andrea Pino, two former University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill students who filed a Title IX complaint against UNC in response to their rapes while enrolled. The use of Title IX in campus sexual assault cases became a model for universities across the country. **Sign up under Guidance/Hunting Ground** Trailer: https://youtu.be/XOujlVu5-kA
