Vineyarder of the Week

This week we interviewed Kyle Crossland, the new horticulture teacher and assistant baseball coach

Kyle Crossland

What do you do here at the high school?

I am the CTE horticulture teacher.

Where did you grow up? What high school did you go to?

I grew up in Oak Bluffs and went to MVRHS. I graduated in 2001.

Where did you go to college and what for?

I went to UMass Amherst for environmental design and horticulture and ECOSA Institute for Ecological Design in Arizona.

How did you get involved with horticulture?

When I was a kid my father had a nursery and I grew up running around, doing little jobs, and fell into the family business.

What made you decide to come and teach at MVRHS?

When I heard that Mr. Wojtkielo was retiring and that the job was open, I thought it would be a really cool job opportunity. I used to coach Babe Ruth Baseball and thought it would be great to combine the two.

What is your favorite part of teaching at MVRHS?

Really getting to know the students, I love the greenhouse and the environment.

Do you participate in any other activities in the school?

I am a Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach.

How many years have you been playing/coaching baseball?

I have been playing my whole life, and I have coached off and on for about 6 years.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

When I was in college, I traveled to India and spent 6 months there.

50th Anniversary of the Minnesingers

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Minnesingers founding and they are celebrating with a reunion of all former Minnesingers, along with this year’s Minnesingers, in the spring concerts May 12/13. If you are a former Minnesinger, and would like to participate, please let Nancy Rogers know asap. If you know any former Minnesingers, please pass the word along.

For those on Facebook, there is a group page – “MVRHS Minnesinger 50th Reunion” – to which you can request membership. Also, there is an events page you can go to – “MVRHS Minnesinger 50th Reunion Concerts” – to let us know whether or not you can come.

Here is a link to SurveyMonkey, which would be preferable to the paper survey.

Performances: Saturday, May 12, 7pm and Sunday, May 13, 3pm. Rehearsal: Saturday 9-12; lunch 12-1; run-through 1-3. Get together Friday night @ The Loft!
