Student artwork displayed has been provided by this year’s painting and drawing and photography classes.

Students marched in the “March For Our Lives” in Washington DC, Boston and even at Five Corners in Vineyard Haven! This event provided a platform for students to express their hope for change, including stricter gun laws and to end gun violence. In Boston and DC, speakers and performers rallied the groups and encouraged students to continue speaking out about this issue.

Vineyarder of the Week

This week we interviewed Ms. Todd, Yearbook Coordinator and MVRHS Design and Architecture Teacher.

Are you originally from the Vineyard?

No, I was born and raised in Philadelphia, and come to the Vineyard most recently from Rhode Island.

Where did you go to college and what did you study?

Syracuse University for Industrial Design (Product Design).

How many years have you worked here?

This is my 5th year teaching at MVRHS.

What classes do you teach?

Design & Architecture I, Design & Architecture II , Advanced Design & Architecture, 3D Digital Design (SketchUp class), Animation, Cartoon Design, Yearbook, Visual Arts Portfolio, and CTE Exploratory – Architecture.

What are some challenges, that you face, while creating the yearbook?

I have been in charge of the yearbook for 4 years. The MVRHS Yearbook is a 225 page hardbound publication in which the students come up with the content, take photos and do the layout and design. There are a lot of moving parts and a strict deadline. Student time, particularly after school, is very limited and organization as well as communication can be challenging.

Who are the editors?

Myllena deOliveira and Jolie Sola are this year’s editors.

How do you create the themes for the yearbook?

The students in the class decide on the theme and the overall graphic feel of the book.

What grade levels work on the yearbook?

Grades 9-12 are able to work on the yearbook.

What should people know about this year’s yearbook right now?

We are working hard to hit our deadline which is just before April break. The book will need to be finished and sent to the publisher a week after break to get it back in time for Graduation. We try to make sure that everyone is represented in the Yearbook; all grades, events, sports, clubs and activities. We LOVE pictures, so students should feel free to share them at yearbook@mvrhs.com .

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of MVRHS?

I like to take advantage of being on the island and what’s offered here, whether that means going to an event, a talk or kayaking. This fall I started trying to walk all the trails in Walking Trails of Martha’s Vineyard.
