• EXAMS A & B on Monday, January 22: Second semester begins on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.

• 1/23 Flex Period: The Yard presents a performance of “What the Day Owes the Night” with French-Algerian Compagnie Hervé Koubi. Internationally renowned choreographer Hervé Koubi and his company of 12 French-Algerian male dancers are coming to Flex Period to offer a highly physical performance that combines capoeira, martial arts, urban and contemporary dance with powerful imagery evocative of Orientalist paintings and the stone filigree of Islamic architecture. This performance is part of a US tour including engagements in Boston, San Diego, Dallas, New York City, Miami, Atlanta……and your very own high school. It is a flex option not to be missed: Herve Koubi is recognized as one of Europe’s most distinctive choreographers and you have the chance to see his international company for free during your school day in this special extended Flex Block!  https://www.jacobspillow.org/events/compagnie-herve-koubi/

• Harvest of the Month: This month’s IGS taste test in the cafeteria will take place on Tuesday, January 30th. The harvest of the month for January is Whole Grains.

• ARTiculation: Martha’s Vineyard Community Services will be offering a 6 week Art Journaling Group for young women interested in discussing healthy/unhealthy relationship characteristics, good boundaries, rights and empowerment. The group will take place during Flex every Thursday for six weeks beginning on January 25th and will be facilitated by Hanna Halperin, a Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Counselor from CONNECT to end Violence.
  
  All art supplies will be provided and no art experience is necessary to participate in the group. Participants and facilitators will sign a statement to preserve the confidentiality of the group.
  • Please sign and return the permission slip by Thursday, January 25th, 2018 ( form available on the MVRHS website or in Amy Lilavois’ office at MVRHS) .

A SHOUT OUT TO SWEAR/PEER OUTREACH STUDENTS

In the months of December and January a group of junior/senior SWEAR and Peer Outreach students led small group conversations with students from every grade around the topic of consent and the importance of being an active bystander. These are incredibly important peer-peer conversations to have and we will continue to organize more discussions as the year continues. A big shout out and thank you to the following students for taking the time to lead these discussions and for believing so strongly in the cause.

• Monday, January 22nd ​- The Program of Studies booklet will be available online (www.mvrhs.org) for parents and students to review prior to scheduling for next year.
• Freshmen and Sophomores​ will start scheduling the week of Feb 5th.
• Juniors​ will schedule in the PAC on Tuesday, Feb 13th​ during flex time 9:00- 9:40.
• Tuesday, Feb. 20th – ​8th grade parent meeting in the PAC 6:30-8:00pm.
• Starting the week of March 19th​, John Fiorito will be visiting each elementary school and will do the 8th grade individual course sign up.
