Free MVAAFF Tickets and Invitation to The Black Party

Dear MVRHS Community,

Happy August! There are a couple of opportunities taking place this month in celebration of black culture on Martha’s Vineyard that I wanted to be sure everyone was aware of.

Free MVAAFF Tickets for Students:

The MV African American Film Festival (MVAAFF) has generously offered free tickets for MVRHS students to any MVAAFF movie during their film festival this month. Simply show up to your film(s) of choice and inform the MVAAFF staff that you are an MVRHS student.

The festival runs August 5th through August 13th. Visit the MVAAFF website for a complete list of movies.  Additional information can be found on instagram @mvaaff  or @mvsocialjustice

A Long Talk Black Party:

Here is a special invitation to The Black Party from Kyle Wiliams of A Long Talk. The party is happening this Saturday, August 6th from 12-4pm at Waban Park in Oak Bluffs. All are welcome.

Kyle gave a powerful keynote address at the MVRHS Day of Dialogue conference in June. The Black Party is a continuation of the energy created and work done to cultivate a new culture of anti-racism on the island with a celebration of black culture. Join with family, friends and community on Saturday to take part in the festivities, including live performances, storytelling, games, and much more.

We hope students and the MVRHS community will take advantage of these wonderful opportunities!

Thank you,
