Libraries across the island of Martha’s Vineyard hosted the first Martha’s Vineyard Library Symposium on Saturday, October 28th at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. The focus was on strengthening ties between libraries of all types on the Island, and those who support them. It was a free event for all.
We welcomed some amazing speakers, including Maureen Sullivan, 2012-2013 President of the American Library Association. This is her keynote address.
Throughout high school, the one thing Aidee regretted the most is not finding her potential when it came to her voice. Singing was something she has always loved to do, and being in the music department is where she is most happy and comfortable. As her senior year drew to an end, she didn’t want to end it feeling unsatisfied with what was left unaccomplished. Our school has amazing talent and even more talent in the teachers, and she wished to use that to her advantage. She worked with Ms. Chandler to find that potential in her voice and learn a classical style of singing. She learned about the anatomy of the throat and the respiratory system. She learned how to translate her music into an IPA style format. When it comes to how to actually sing she says she is “just beginning”, but listen to her voice!
Check out Livie’s book, which was just published! 40 Essays on Personal Beliefs by people in the MVRHS and MV community. Copies are available in the library, and will be on sale next week. Proceeds will benefit next year’s senior project students.
