Davin Tackabury and Emily Weyl Win National Awards

Congratulations to MVRHS sophomore Davin Tackabury and freshman Emily Weyl who won national awards at the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in New York City last week!

Davin won a Gold Medal for his photograph, “Coexist” and a Silver Medal for his photo, “Foreigner”. Freshman Emily Weyl won a Silver Medal for her photo, “Tears in Her Eyes”.

Davin’s gold medal piece is being shipped to New York to be shown in a special gallery exhibit there. (It’s currently on exhibit at Tufts.) He also intends to attend the big national ceremony at Carnegie Hall in June. Davin is one of only 35 students from Massachusetts to win a Gold Medal in Art, Design or Technology this year (there are about 350,000 entries every year, nationally) and one of only five to win one in photography.

Four other MVRHS students – Ryan O’Malley, Salyn Yancey, Simone Davis, and Maria Clara Lacerda – also competed nationally, after winning the top prize at the state level. Some of them will be traveling to Tufts tomorrow to attend the state ceremony. Congratulations to all!
