On Thursday, the MVironment Club and two MVRHS students won awards at the Massachusetts State House. Matthew A Beaton, Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affiars, presented the 2016 Secretary’s Awards for Excellence in Energy and Environmental Education. The awards recognize “dedication, commitment, and contribution to energy and environmental education.”

This is the hydroponics project that the club did with elementary school and middle school students, and it was supported by John Wojkielo (MVRHS horticulture) and Keith Wilda (Thimble Farm). Casey McAndrews and Zachary Bresnick accepted the award on behalf of the MVironment Club. Anna Cotton and I serve as club advisors, and Dana Munn advised for this project as well.
For the Science Fair project – Building a Usable Cell Phone Powered by Solar
First Honors
Katharine Roberts and Rose Engler received this award for their work on creating a functional cell phone with a solar charger. Work for their device was supported by Chris Connors (MVRHS tech dept). I served as advisor for the project, the ladies will be part of the group going to the State Science Fair at MIT on Friday.
